Catch The Wind (2017 Film)
''Catch the Wind'' (french: Prendre le large) is a 2017 French drama film directed by Gaël Morel. It was screened in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. Synopsis Edith, a 45-year-old textile worker, has to choose when the bosses of her factory in Villefranche-sur-Saône decide to relocate the company to Morocco. Unattached since her son left, she is the only worker who agrees to leave in order to avoid unemployment, and so she arrives in Tangiers. She will be confronted with many trials, but will discover friendship. Gaël Morel
Gaël Morel (born 25 September 1972) is a French film director, screenwriter and actor. Life and career Morel was born in Villefranche-sur-Saône, Rhône (department), Rhône, France, a town of 30,000 inhabitants outside Lyon. He grew up in the nearby village of Lacenas in the Villefranche district. At the age of 15, Morel left home to pursue film studies in Lyon, and later moved to Paris. There he met French director André Téchiné, who cast him in the lead role of François in the multi-César Award-winning 1994 film ''Wild Reeds (film), Wild Reeds'' (''Les Roseaux sauvages''), which brought him fame, earning much critical praise for his performance and a 1995 César nomination for Most Promising Young Actor. While his ''Wild Reeds'' co-stars Élodie Bouchez and Stéphane Rideau have both gone on to successful acting careers (he has often cast them in his own films), Morel has chosen to write and direct. 2017 Toronto International Film Festival
The 42nd annual Toronto International Film Festival was held from 7 to 17 September 2017. There were fourteen programmes, with the Vanguard and City to City programmes both being retired from previous years, with the total number of films down by 20% from the 2016 edition. ''Borg/McEnroe'' directed by Janus Metz Pedersen opened the festival. According to a "fact sheet" released by the Festival before it began, this edition included 255 feature-length films and 84 short films. Of the feature films, 147 are claimed to be world premieres. Soumaya Akaaboune ( ar, سومية أكعبون; born 16 February 1974) is a Moroccan actress. Biography Akaaboune was born and raised in Tangier, Morocco. Her mother was a stylist and costume designer while her father was an art lover. She described her childhood home as a sanctuary for artists and those in need. At the age of 14, Akaaboune was spotted by the choreographer Maurice Béjart, who invited her to join his dance troupe. She accepted and trained for eight hours a day, a period in which she said was the happiest of her life. Akaaboune toured Europe, dancing in Paris, then Spain and London.
