Canvas (Belgian TV Channel)
Canvas is a Belgium, Belgian television channel of the Flemish Region, Flemish public broadcasting organisation Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroeporganisatie (VRT). Specialising in both original and adaptations from western Europe and North America, the channel offers: in-depth news and current affairs, non-mainstream entertainment, documentaries, arthouse films, other cultural programming, and most recently additional children's programming. The channel, launched in December 1997, is part of VRT's second network (VRT 2), which also carries occasional sports programming under the ''Sporza'' branding. The current network director of VRT 2 is Bart De Poot. Until 2012, Canvas timeshared with the children's channel Ketnet between 7am and 8pm; Ketnet has thus moved to its own channel and Canvas became a standalone channel. VRT NWS Journaal (formerly Het Journaal) is the main news program of the VRT, broadcast daily on the channels één and Canvas. The first edition of ''Het Journaal'' was broadcast on 31 October 1953, the day that Flemish television began. Initially, ''Het Journaal'' was a small operation, with few staff; nowadays, there are dozens of journalists, and many other employees, such as directors, producers and technicians. Broadcasts ''VRT NWS Journaal'' is typically broadcast four times a day on één: 1pm, 6pm, 7pm, and the late news, which usually airs at around 10:45pm. At weekends, an extra bulletin is broadcast at 8pm on Canvas: this airs in place of current affairs programme ''Terzake'' (roughly translated, 'In this respect'). The 7pm edition is the main edition, and the most-watched, usually running for 40 minutes. ''Carrie & Barry'' is a British television sitcom first broadcast on BBC One between 2004 and 2005, it stars Neil Morrissey, Claire Rushbrook, Mark Williams and Michelle Gomez. ''Carnivàle'' () is an American television series set in the United States Dust Bowl during the Great Depression of the 1930s. The series, created by Daniel Knauf, ran for two seasons between 2003 and 2005.
