Cantabria Autonomous Football Team
The Cantabria autonomous football team is the regional football team for Cantabria, Spain. They are not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA and therefore are only allowed to play friendly matches. History The Northern Federation In the early 20th century, the Cantabrian players were part of a combined 'North' team, however, this team usually only featured players from the Basque provinces of Biscay and Gipuzkoa, each of which was also organizing their own representative matches occasionally. This 'North' team, which later evolved into the Basque Country team, participated in the first Prince of Asturias Cup tournament in 1915 at Madrid, and they won the title after beating the Catalan team 1–0 and then holding Centro (a team formed by players from the center of Spain) to a 1-1 draw. Francisco Gento
Francisco "Paco" Gento López (21 October 1933 – 18 January 2022) was a Spanish footballer who played as an outside left. He was voted by IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics) as the greatest Spanish footballer and 30th greatest world footballer of the 20th century. Gento began his career at Racing Santander in 1952 and moved to Real Madrid the following season. He appeared in a joint record eight European Cup finals, winning a record six, as well as winning a record 12 La Liga titles. In a 14-year international career, Gento earned 43 caps for Spain, playing at the World Cup in 1962 and 1966. The Biscay Regional Championship ''(Campeonato Regional de Vizcaya)'', also called the North Regional Championship ''(Campeonato Regional Norte)'' in its early editions, was an official football tournament in Spain organised by the North Football Federation. The Biscay autonomous football team was the regional football team for the province of Biscay, Spain, active between the 1910s and the 1930s. They were never affiliated with FIFA or UEFA, because Biscay is represented internationally by the Spain national football team. Asturias Autonomous Football Team
The Asturias autonomous football team is the regional football team for Asturias. They are not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA, because it is represented internationally by the Spain national football team. The team only plays friendlies. History Cantabric Federation The Regional Cantabric Federation of Football Clubs was founded on 9 December 1915 with the aim to represent all the clubs in the Province of Oviedo. On 22 November 1916, the Spanish Football Federation allowed the clubs of Cantabria to leave the Northern Regional Championship and join the newly created Cantabrian Regional Federation, along with clubs from Oviedo, soon to be renamed Asturias. Senén Villaverde Lavandera (1896 – 7 April 1950), also known as Villaverde III was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward. Fernando Villaverde Lavandera (30 March 1894 – 23 June 1937), also known as Villaverde I was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward. His brothers, Saturnino and Senén, were also footballers and also played for Athletic Club de Madrid. Manuel Argüelles Sánchez (9 July 1897-10 December 1958) was a Spanish footballer who played as a forward. Manuel Meana
Manuel Meana (21 October 1901 – 1 August 1985) was a Spanish footballer. He was capped for Spain 7 times and was part of Spain's squad for the football tournament at the 1924 Summer Olympics, but he did not play in any matches.
