Yishun
Yishun ( ), formerly known as Nee Soon, is a New towns of Singapore, residential town located in the northeastern corner of the North Region, Singapore, North Region of Singapore, bordering Simpang and Sembawang to the north, Mandai to the west, the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, Central Water Catchment to its southwest, Ang Mo Kio to its south, as well as Seletar and Sengkang to its east and southeast respectively. Etymology The name Yishun () is the Mandarin Chinese equivalent of "Nee Soon", the given name of Lim Nee Soon (Chinese language, Chinese: ), a prominent industrialist who made his fortune from the rubber and pineapple plantations he had in the area. Yishun planning area is divided into nine sub-zones namely Khatib, Lower Seletar, Nee Soon, North Land, Springleaf, Yishun Central, Yishun East, Yishun South and Yishun West. Khatib MRT Station
Khatib MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South MRT line, North South line (NSL) located in Khatib, Singapore, a subzone in Yishun, Yishun planning area. The station is located at the junction of Yishun Ring Road and Yishun Avenue 2, and is one of the two stations that currently serve Yishun New Town; the other being Yishun MRT station, Yishun station. The section of tracks between this station and Yio Chu Kang MRT station, Yio Chu Kang station is the longest between any two stations on the MRT network. North Region, Singapore
The North Region (, zh, 北區) of Singapore is one of the five regions in the city-state. The region is the second largest region in terms of land area, and has a population of 582,330. Woodlands is the regional centre and also the most populous town with 255,130 residents living in the area. Comprising 13,500 hectares of land area, it includes eight planning areas. The relative isolation of the area from the Downtown Core meant relatively belated urban development and the greater abundance of natural greenery. Lower Seletar Reservoir
Lower Seletar Reservoir ( Chinese: 实里达蓄水池下段 ; ) is a reservoir located in the northern part of Singapore in the Lower Seletar subzone, located in Yishun New Town. The reservoir has a surface area of 3.6 km², and a capacity of 9.5 million m³. The mean depth of the reservoir is 2 m, with a maximum depth of 5.5 m. The shoreline length is 14.3 km. History Lower Seletar Reservoir was constructed under the Sungei Seletar/Bedok Water Scheme, completed in 1986. The scheme involved the damming of Sungei Seletar to form Lower Seletar Reservoir, the creation of Bedok Reservoir from a former sand quarry and the construction of Bedok Waterworks. Its unique feature was the construction of nine stormwater collection stations to tap the storm runoffs of the surrounding urbanised catchments. Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim
Masjid Ahmad Ibrahim ( Jawi: مسجد أحمد إبراهيم; ''Ahmad Ibrahim Mosque'') is a mosque located along Jalan Ulu Seletar, between the areas of Yishun and Thomson, Singapore. It is named after Ahmad bin Ibrahim, a Singaporean politician and the former Minister for Labour from 1959–1961. History The place was first established as a surau (prayer hall). The date of establishment differs with some sources stating 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958; either way all sources agree the establishment of the surau was in the mid to late 1950s. It served the residents of the villages in what is now modern day Sembawang. The surau was upgraded with funding from Ahmad bin Ibrahim, the then Minister of Health, in 1959. With the growing number of Muslims in the area around it, the surau received the status of a congregational mosque in 1962. Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency
The Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the North Region, Singapore, north region of Singapore. The GRC was established in 2011. The GRC includes most of Yishun town, the private residential areas along Sembawang Road and Upper Thomson Road, the southern part of Sembawang and the Nee Soon Camp. Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency
The Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) for the Parliament of Singapore. It is managed by Jalan Kayu Town Council. Located in the North-East Region, it was established in 2025 after being split from Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and was first contested at the general election that occurred in the same year. The current Member of Parliament (MP) is Ng Chee Meng from the People's Action Party (PAP). The new towns of Singapore are planned communities located across Singapore that are designed to be self-contained. Designed to house up to 300,000 residents, these new towns contain areas zoned for housing, recreation and employment, and are composed of multiple neighbourhoods, each of which is further subdivided into multiple precincts. Amenities in these new towns are provided through a multi-tiered system, and based on Housing and Development Board (HDB) guidelines. As of 2022, the country has 24 new towns. Alex Yam Ziming ( zh, s=任梓铭, t=任梓銘, p=Rén Zǐmíng; born 20 June 1981) is a Singaporean politician who has been serving as Mayor of North West District since 2020. } (born 8 August 1968) is a Singaporean politician, union leader and former lieutenant-general who has been serving as Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) since 2018 and as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency (SMC) since 2025. Prior to entering politics, Ng served in the Republic of Singapore Air Force under the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) between 1986 and 2015, and held the appointments of Chief of Air Force between 2009 and 2013 and Chief of Defence Force between 2013 and 2015.
