Woking Borough Council Elections
One third of Woking Borough Council in Surrey, England is elected each year, followed by one year without election. Since the last boundary changes in 2016, 30 councillors have been elected from 10 wards of the United Kingdom, wards. Political control A borough called Woking had existed since 1974 and was controlled by the Conservative Party (UK), Conservative Party until the 1986 united Kingdom local elections, local elections in 1986. The partisan control of the borough has been as follows, with each poll electing one third of the seats, except where noted. Woking Borough Council
Woking Borough Council is the local authority for Woking in Surrey, England. The council consists of 30 councillors, three for each of the 10 wards in the town. It is currently controlled by the Liberal Democrats, led by Ann-Marie Barker. The borough council is based at Woking Civic Offices. History The parish of Woking was made a local government district in 1893, governed by a local board. Such districts became urban districts in December 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894, and so the local board was replaced by Woking Urban District Council. The urban district was significantly enlarged in 1907 when it absorbed Horsell parish and again in 1933 when it absorbed Byfleet and Pyrford parishes. The first woman elected to the council was Elizabeth Balfour in 1919. On 1 April 1974, the urban district became a non-metropolitan district, altering its powers and responsibilities, although keeping the same area. 1999 Woking Borough Council Election
The 1999 Woking Council election took place on 6 May 1999 to elect members of Woking Borough Council in Surrey, England. Summary One third of the council was up for election. The council stayed under no overall control. Before the election the largest council party grouping, the Liberal Democrats, were two seats short of a majority. The effect of the election was to make the Liberal Democrats four seats short, to remove their option of relying on the independent councillor and vacant seat where necessary and calling for issue-by-issue full council chamber support of either a third of the local Conservatives or most of the local Labour Party councillors.
