WTA Tour
The WTA Tour (also known as the Hologic WTA Tour for sponsorship reasons) is a worldwide top-tier tennis tour for women and organized by the Women's Tennis Association. The second-tier tour is the WTA 125 series, and third-tier is the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour. The men's equivalent is the ATP Tour. Season format 2024–present In 2024, the WTA made all WTA 1000 events mandatory. Qatar Ladies Open
The Qatar Open, currently sponsored by TotalEnergies and called the Qatar TotalEnergies Open, is a professional tennis WTA 1000 tournament held in Doha, Qatar. Held since 2001, this WTA Tour event was a Tier I-tournament in 2008, and was played on outdoor hardcourts. After a two-year break the tournament returned in 2011 and is held at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. History The first tournament was held in 2001 as ''Qatar Total FinaElf Open'' for the prize money of $170,000, as a Tier III tournament. In 2004, the tournament got Tier II category because of an increase in prize money to $585,000, and in 2007 to $600,000. For the 2008 season, which was the last season it was held, the tournament became Tier I for the prize money of $2,500,000. WTA Tournament of Champions was a women's season ending tennis tournament for players who have won one or more of the WTA International tournaments during the year but did not qualify for the WTA Championships. The Tournament of Champions took place from 2009 until 2014; it was then replaced by a new format year-end tournament: the WTA Elite Trophy. Tianjin Open
The Tianjin Open was an International-level WTA tennis event held at the Tianjin International Tennis Center. The venue has a center court that seats 3,500 people, as well as 12 outdoor courts with lights, four indoor courts and a tennis club. In 2019, there were nine WTA-level tournaments in mainland China: WTA Finals in Shenzhen, WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, Premier-level stops in Beijing, Wuhan and Zhengzhou, and International-level stops in Shenzhen, Nanchang, Guangzhou and Tianjin. Hong Kong Tennis Open
The Hong Kong Open is a professional tennis tournament organized by thHong Kong, China Tennis Associationannually at the Victoria Park Tennis Centre in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. The men's tournament is named the Bank of China Hong Kong Tennis Open, an ATP 250 tournament leading up to the Australian Open, and is held in early January every year starting in 2024. The women's tournament is named the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open, a WTA 250 tournament, and is held in early October every year starting in 2014. The Hong Kong Tennis Open was previously named the Salem Open that began in 1973 and discontinued in 2002. After a 21-year absence, the men's tournament resumed in January 2024. The WTA International tournaments was a category for tennis tournaments of the Women's Tennis Association from the 2009 WTA Tour until 2020, which replaced the previous Tier III and Tier IV categories. As of 2021 these events have been reclassified as WTA 250 tournaments. The winner of a WTA 250 tournament adds 250 points to her WTA ranking. WTA Premier tournaments was a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association, WTA Tour, implemented from the reorganization of the schedule in 2009 until 2020. In 2020, Premier events included: * Four "Premier Mandatory" events in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and Beijing with prize money of $4.5 million. * Five "Premier 5" events in Doha, Rome, Cincinnati, Toronto/Montreal, and Wuhan with prize money of $2 million. * Twelve "Premier" events with prize money of $600,000 to $1,000,000. The Wuhan Open (currently sponsored by Dongfeng Voyah) is a WTA 1000 tennis tournament held in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China and organized for female professional tennis players. It is one of the WTA 1000 tournaments on the WTA Tour and made its debut in the 2014 season. The Wuhan Open is one of three Women's Tennis Association events in China that were new to the calendar in 2014, bringing the total number of women's professional tournaments in the country to six. It is also one of two Premier-level stops in China.
