Verizon Communications Inc. ( ), is an American telecommunications company headquartered in New York City. It is the world's List of telecommunications companies#World's largest telecom companies by total revenue, second-largest telecommunications company by revenue and Verizon (mobile network), its mobile network is the List of United States wireless communications service providers, largest wireless carrier in the United States, with 146 million subscribers as of March 31, 2025. The company was formed in 1983 as Bell Atlantic as a result of the breakup of the Bell System into seven companies, each a Regional Bell Operating Company (RBOC), commonly referred to as "Baby Bells."
