Ulefoss
Ulefoss is the administrative centre of Nome Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located along the northwest shore of the large lake Norsjø. The village occupies both sides of Ulefoss falls on the river Eidselva, just before it flows into the lake Norsjø. The village of Helgja lies about to the southeast, the village of Bjervamoen lies about to the west, and the village of Gvarv lies about to the northwest (in Midt-Telemark Municipality). The village has a population (2022) of 2,302 and a population density of . Ulefoss is one of Norway's oldest industrial communities, with sawmills operating from the 1400s, and mining and ironworks from the 1600s. It is still largely an industrial site, with a number of people employed in the iron foundry and mechanical industries. Ulefoss has primary school, lower secondary, and upper secondary school. Eidselva
Eidselva or Lundeelva is a river in Nome Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. The long river is part of Skiensvassdraget watershed and it is an important part of the Telemark Canal system. The river begins at the lake Nomevatnet, just east of the village of Bjervamoen and flows to the east and south into the large lake Norsjø at the village of Ulefoss. Throughout its course, there are six sluices (14 sluicegates), with a total rise of around . In the river, there are four hydroelectric power stations: Eidsfoss, Vrangfoss, Ulefoss, and Aall-Ulefoss. Holla Church
Holla Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Nome Municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Ulefoss. It is one of the churches for the ''Holla og Helgen'' parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The red, brick church was built in a long church design in 1867 using plans drawn up by the architect Peter Høier Holtermann. The church seats about 360 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the end of the 14th century, but this is not when the church was built. The first church in Holla was a small stone church located on a site about to the southeast of the present church site. ''Kanalen'' (The Canal) is a local Norwegian newspaper published in Ulefoss in Telemark county. History ''Kanalen'' was established by Jan Arve Andersen in 2001, and it has covered events in the municipality of Nome since 2012; prior to this it also covered news in the municipality of Sauherad. It is currently edited by Tor Espen Simonsen. From 2003 to 2012 the newspaper was completely owned by the newspaper '' Varden''. The paper's employees currently hold the majority of shares in the company. The name ''Kanalen'' is derived from the Telemark Canal. The waterway and its locks run across the municipality of Nome and help link together the two largest urban areas, Ulefoss and Lunde. The newspaper serves the same purpose as a channel for media. The Telemark Museum is a museum in Telemark, Norway. It includes several buildings across Telemark and is headquartered in Kleiva in the older part of Skien in Telemark county, Norway. The main museum building is located within walking distance of downtown Skien. Telemark Museum includes the Henrik Ibsen Museum in Skien. Gvarv is a village in the municipality Midt-Telemark in Telemark county, Norway. The village is located along the river Gvarvelva, just from where the river empties into the large lake Norsjø. The village of Bø lies about to the northwest, the village of Akkerhaugen lies about to the east, and the village of Ulefoss lies about to the southeast. The village has a population (2022) of 1,109 and a population density of . Gvarv is a farming area, noted for its apples, sweet cherries, and sour cherries (as is the whole Sauherad area). Midt-Telemark is a Districts of Norway, traditional district of Norway situated in Telemark county. It is made up of two municipalities: Midt-Telemark (municipality), Midt-Telemark and Nome, Norway, Nome. The largest population centres in the region are Bø, Midt-Telemark, Bø, Ulefoss, Bjervamoen, and Gvarv, of which Bø is the largest with 3,609 inhabitants. The district is located between Øvre Telemark (upper Telemark) and Nedre Telemark (lower Telemark).
