Toi Market
Toi Market is an open-air retail Marketplace, market located on the outskirts of the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya. The market sits on a three-acre plot on Suna Road, a by-street to Ngong Road which runs almost the length of Nairobi, from the Lang'ata area into the center of the city. From its inception until it was Arson, razed by Gang, gangs during 2007–08 Kenyan crisis, post-election violence in early 2008, Toi was one of the largest informal markets in Nairobi, with over 5000 traders. It mainly sells Clothing, clothes and footwear, but also vegetables and other accessories. In April 2018, the Nairobi City County, Nairobi County government announced that it would demolish the market and construct modern houses on the land. Tonga (''Chitonga''), also known as ''Zambezi'', is a Bantu language primarily spoken by the Tonga people (''Bantu Batonga'') who live mainly in the Southern province, Lusaka province, Central Province and Western province of Zambia, and in northern Zimbabwe. "Toi toi toi" () is an expression used in the performing arts to wish an artist success in an imminent performance. It is similar to "break a leg" and reflects a superstition that wishing someone "good luck" is in fact bad luck. Origin There are many theories as to the origin of ''Toi toi toi'' as an idiom. In folklore it was used to ward off a spell or hex, often accompanied by knocking on wood or spitting. The Toi pirates sailed with about 50 ships from direction of Goryeo, then assaulted Tsushima and Iki, starting 27 March 1019. After the Iki Island garrison consisting of 147 soldiers led by Fujiwara Noritada was wiped out, the Jurchen pirates slaughtered all the Japanese men while seizing Japanese women as prisoners. Fujiwara Noritada, the Japanese governor was killed. After that, they raided Chikuzen Province's Ido, Shima, and Sawara counties, and on April 9, they raided Hakata. Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is a space telescope for NASA's Explorer program, designed to search for exoplanets using the transit method in an area 400 times larger than that covered by the Kepler mission. It was launched on 18 April 2018, atop a Falcon 9 launch vehicle and was placed into a highly elliptical 13.70-day orbit around the Earth. The first light image from TESS was taken on 7 August 2018, and released publicly on 17 September 2018.
