Crime Fiction
Crime fiction, detective story, murder mystery, crime novel, mystery novel, and police novel are terms used to describe narratives or fiction that centre on criminal acts and especially on the investigation, either by an amateur or a professional detective, of a crime, often a murder. Most crime drama focuses on criminal investigation and does not feature the courtroom. Suspense and Mystery fiction, mystery are key elements that are nearly ubiquitous to the genre. It is usually distinguished from mainstream fiction and other genres such as historical fiction and science fiction, but the boundaries are indistinct. Crime fiction has several subgenres, including detective fiction (such as the whodunit), courtroom drama, hardboiled, hard-boiled fiction, and legal thrillers. Earle Basinsky
Earle Morris Basinsky, Jr. (1921–1963) was an American crime novelist and protégé of Mickey Spillane. He wrote two novels, 1955's ''The Big Steal'' and 1956's ''Death is a Cold, Keen Edge'', and five short stories. Biography Basinky was born in 1921 in Vicksburg, Mississippi to Earle Basinsky, Sr., and Aline Basinsky. He attended law school at the University of Mississippi in 1939 but left in 1942 to join the United States Army Air Forces, eventually earning the rank of captain. While stationed in Greenwood, Mississippi for pilot training, he met and befriended Mickey Spillane, who was then in Greenwood serving in the Army. He married Mary Johanna Poehlmann in 1945. After the war, he moved briefly to Brooklyn, New York, where he worked with Spillane. In 1946, apparently during his time with Spillane in New York, Basinsky published two short stories in comic books: "Killer's Choice" in ''Vic Verity'', and "Knife Act" in ''Don Fortune Magazine''. Gary Braver
Gary Goshgarian, better known by his pen name Gary Braver, is the author of nine thrillers and mysteries. Goshgarian is an assistant professor of English at Northeastern University in Boston. He has taught fiction-writing workshops throughout the United States and Europe. He is the author of five college writing textbooks with Pearson Education. Early life Goshgarian was born in Hartford, CT. He earned a degree in physics from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. WPI awarded him the Robert H. Goddard Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement in 2014. Goshgarian decided he wanted to write when he finished college, and went on to the University of Connecticut where he received an MA in English, followed by a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Sam Bourne
Jonathan Saul Freedland (born 25 February 1967) is a British journalist who writes a weekly column for ''The Guardian'' and presents the BBC Radio 4 contemporary history series ''The Long View''. He previously wrote for ''The Jewish Chronicle'' until his resignation in September 2024 along with Hadley Freeman, David Aaronovitch, David Baddiel and others. Lawrence L. Bond (born June 11, 1951) is an American author and wargame designer. He is the designer of the ''Harpoon'' and ''Command at Sea'' gaming systems, and several supplements for the games. Examples of his numerous novels include ''Dangerous Ground'', ''Day of Wrath'', ''The Enemy Within'', ''Cauldron'', ''Vortex'' and ''Red Phoenix''. Charles Bock (born 1969) is an American writer whose debut novel '' Beautiful Children'' (published by Random House) was selected by ''The New York Times'' as a Notable Book of the Year for 2008, and won the 2009 Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. He lives in Brooklyn, New York. Biography Bock was born and raised in Las Vegas, which served as the setting for '' Beautiful Children''. He comes from a family of pawnbrokers who have operated shops in Downtown Las Vegas for more than 30 years.
