Television In The Czech Republic
Television was introduced in Czechoslovakia in 1953. Experimental projects with DVB-T started in 2000. Finally on 21 October 2005, multiplex A (DVB-T) was launched with three channels of Czech Television and one of TV Nova and radio channels of Czech Radio. On 12 April 2006, six digital terrestrial television licenses were awarded to commercial broadcasters. The receivers of the licenses were: Z1, TV Pohoda, Regionální televizni agentura (RTA), Febio TV, TV Barrandov and Óčko. However, because of delays some projects lost investors and will not start (e.g. Fabio, Pohoda) or were cancelled. Z1 provided a news service in from 2008 to January 2011, when it ceased broadcasting. Óčko delivers a music service. TV Barrandov provides general programming services. Czech Republic become the first country in Central Europe to start to end all analogue broadcasts in November 2011. Czech Television ( ; abbreviation: ČT) is a public television broadcaster in the Czech Republic, broadcasting six channels. Established after breakup of Czechoslovakia in 1992, it is the successor to Czechoslovak Television founded in 1953. Nova Fun
Nova Fun is a Czech free-to-air commercial television station, belonging to the Nova Group, which focuses its programming exclusively on shows, series, or films of the comedy genre. The license to broadcast it is owned by TV Nova s.r.o., which is owned by the foreign company CME. The station began broadcasting on December 23, 2012, under the name Smíchov TV. On February 4, 2017, it was renamed Nova 2 to unify the channel names of the Nova group. On September 20, 2021, the station got a new name again, namely Nova Fun. Nova Action (Czech TV Channel)
Nova Action is the second niche channel aimed at young, active men in the Czech Republic and the main competitor for MTG's channel Prima Cool. The channel, which launched on July 14, 2012, is owned by Central European Media Enterprises. Its 18-hour daily broadcasts currently reach approximately 95% of the country's 10.5 million people. Nova Action showcases top foreign series, shows, documentaries, sporting events, and movies that appeal to young male viewers. Jiří Hodač is a Czech media manager, best known for his short tenure as Director General of Česká televize between December 2000 and January 2001, which spanned the start of the Czech TV crisis. Václav Havel (; 5 October 193618 December 2011) was a Czech statesman, author, poet, playwright, and dissident. Jana Bobošíková
Jana Bobošíková (born 29 August 1964) is a Czech politician. In the 2004 European Parliament election she was elected a Member of the European Parliament for the Independents and remained unaffiliated in the European Parliament. In the 2008 and 2013 presidential elections she unsuccessfully ran for the office as President of the Czech Republic. She founded Politika 21 in 2006 and Sovereignty – Jana Bobošíková Bloc in 2009. Óčko
Óčko (formerly stylized as Òĉko) is the first Czech Republic, Czech music television channel, which started broadcasting in 2002. The majority of the audience are teenagers and people from the 12–35 age group. The channel plays Music video, music videos of all different genres including the latest hits. Apart from regular charts, there are special shows which concentrate only on certain Music genre, music styles. The program also includes live concerts of Czech as well as foreign singers and bands. There is a big emphasis on interactivity. Up to 8 hours a day, the program is influenced by the viewers, who can either use email or SMS to vote for songs. Óčko was also one of the first Czech television channels, which started fully broadcasting online. TV Barrandov
TV Barrandov is a Czech television channel, launched in 2009. It was founded and started to broadcast in 2009. It currently broadcasts in Czech. In 2015 after Chinese company CEFC China Energy invested in TV Barrandov's parent company Empresa Media, the tone of TV Barrandov's coverage of China changed with all neutral and negative reporting about China being replaced by positive reporting. TV Barrandov is currently dealing with bad financial situation. On 20 January 2024 TV Barrandov stopped broadcast after reportedly being cut from electricity due to debts. Broadcast was restored after 10 hours.
