Sanxenxo
Sanxenxo (; ) is a municipality in Galicia (Spain), Galicia, Spain in the province of Pontevedra (province), Pontevedra. It is situated in the southern part of the O Salnés region 15 kilometres west of the city of Pontevedra and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, and the estuaries of Pontevedra and Arousa. The municipality has a population of 17,347 inhabitants (INE (Spain), INE 2019). A popular tourism destination, Sanxenxo is a favorite resort for Spanish public figures such as Mariano Rajoy (ex-Prime Minister of Spain) and Amancio Ortega (Co-Founder of the Inditex group). The Volvo Ocean Race was held in the town in 2005-2006. The race organisation and the competing teams chose Sanxenxo as their base in Spain. An In Port race took place in Sanxenxo on November 5. Poio
Poio is a municipality in the province of Pontevedra, in the autonomous community of Galicia, Spain. It belongs to the comarca of Pontevedra. Poio is located in the north shore of the Ría de Pontevedra, between Sanxenxo and the provincial capital, Pontevedra. The municipality is adjacent with Meaño, Meis, Pontevedra and Sanxenxo and combines mountain and sea areas. Tambo island, an uninhabited island located in the middle of the Pontevedra estuary, officially belongs to Poio but it is under the control of the Spanish Navy and disembarkment is not allowed. Volvo Ocean Race
The Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world, held every three or four years since 1973. Originally named the Whitbread Round the World Race after its initiating sponsor, British brewing company Whitbread, in 2001 it became the Volvo Ocean Race after Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Group, Volvo took up the sponsorship, and in 2019 it was renamed The Ocean Race.
