The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, internet, wi-fi, satellite, and cable across the United States. KATO-FM
KATO-FM (93.1 MHz) is a radio station in Mankato ( licensed to New Ulm) and serving the Minnesota River Valley. The station airs a classic hits radio format. KATO is owned by Linder Radio Group. History This station was originally KNUJ-FM, and paired with KNUJ in New Ulm. By the early 1980s, as the station increased its power, it moved its broadcasting studios and its primary focus to the larger city of Mankato. It was run by Brennon Andrew Harris-Williams. As KXLP, they aired an album-oriented rock format on and off from 1982 to 2007. They flipped to adult contemporary in 1986 as "Lite Rock 93 KXLP" amid a large outcry from loyal listeners. KBHP (101.1 FM, "KB101") is a radio station licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to serve the community of Bemidji, Minnesota, which is located in northwestern Minnesota. Logo with former format KBGY (107.5 FM "Bob FM") is a commercial radio station licensed to Faribault, Minnesota, with a signal that reaches Mankato, Rochester and the southern suburbs of the Twin Cities. It simulcasts a classic country radio format along with 106.1 KLCI Elk River and 105.5 KDDG Albany. KBGY is owned by Dennis and Lucas Carpenter, through licensee Carpenter Broadcasting LLC. KBEW (1560 AM) is a radio station located in Blue Earth, Minnesota that broadcasts an oldies format. The station is currently owned by Carolyn and Doyle Becker, through licensee Riverfront Broadcasting of Minnesota, Inc. and features programing from CBS News Radio. History Clifford Hedberg, owner of KMRS in Morris, Minnesota, applied for KBEW's original construction permit; in August 1962 the FCC approved the application for a 250-watt daytime-only station. The FCC originally assigned the station the call letters KCLH (for "Clifford LeRoy Hedberg"), but before its first broadcast the call letters were changed to KBEW to reflect many of the communities in Faribault County, Minnesota: Kiester, Blue Earth, Bricelyn, Easton, Elmore, Wells, and Winnebago.
