Puurs-Sint-Amands
Puurs-Sint-Amands () is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality in the Belgian province of Antwerp that arose on 1 January 2019 from the merging of the municipalities of Puurs and Sint-Amands. The merged municipality has an area of 48.99 km2 and has a population of 26,208 people as of 2021. Puurs-Sint-Amands consists of the following ''deelgemeentes'' (sub-municipalities): Breendonk, Liezele, Lippelo, Puurs, Oppuurs, Ruisbroek, Antwerp, Ruisbroek, Sint-Amands. Together with Bornem, the area forms a region known as Klein-Brabant, Little Brabant. Creation The Flemish Government provides incentives for municipalities to voluntarily merge. The municipal councils of Puurs and Sint-Amands approved a merge in principle on 18 September 2017. Definitive approval occurred on 20 November 2017, which was ratified by Flemish Decree (Belgium), decree of 4 May 2018 alongside several other merges, all to be effective per 1 January 2019. Liezele
Liezele is a village and ''deelgemeente'' (sub-municipality) of the municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands in the province of Antwerp, Belgium. The village is located about south-south-west of the city of Antwerp. On the night of 4 to 5 September 1914, the entire village was destroyed by the Belgian Army to deny the Germany Army cover. History Liezele was originally located in an area of heaths and forests. The village was first mentioned in 1138 or 1139 as Liensella when it became a parish belonging to Affligem Abbey. The area was divided by the Lords of Grimbergen and the Duchy of Brabant. In 1662, the '' heerlijkheden'' (landed estates) of Liezele, Lippelo and became the property of J.F. de la Pierre. In 1795, Liezele became an independent municipality. Liezele used to be an agricultural area. In 1908, construction started on the Fort van Liezele as part of the National Redoubt. Ruisbroek, Antwerp
Ruisbroek is a village in the municipality of Puurs-Sint-Amands located in the Antwerp Province of Belgium. Ruisbroek was an independent municipality until 1977, when it was merged into Puurs. In 2019, Puurs itself was merged into Puurs-Sint-Amands. Floods Ruisbroek is a polder village protected by dikes which has often seen severe flooding. In 1820, a complete neighbourhood was flooded, and was rebuilt north of the Rupel River. The last flood which occurred was a result of the gale of January 1976. The dike broke over a distance of 100 metres, and flooded part of the village. Puurs () is a former Municipalities of Belgium, municipality located in the Belgium, Belgian province of Antwerp (province), Antwerp. It is located in the Flanders, Flemish Region. The municipality comprised the towns of Breendonk, Liezele, , Ruisbroek, Antwerp, Ruisbroek (old spelling: ''Ruysbroeck'') and Puurs proper. There is also the Hamlet (place), hamlet of Kalfort. In 2021, Puurs had a total population of 17,684. The total area is . Puurs sits about 5 meters above mean sea level. Its geography shows only minor elevation differences.
