Image Persistence
Image persistence, or image retention, is a phenomenon in LCD and plasma displays where unwanted visual information is shown which corresponds to a previous state of the display. It is the flat-panel equivalent of screen burn-in. Unlike screen burn-in, the effects are usually temporary and often not visible without close inspection. Plasma displays experiencing severe image persistence can result in screen burn-in instead. Image persistence can occur as easily as having something remain unchanged on the screen in the same location for a duration of even 10 minutes, such as a web page or document. Minor cases of image persistence are generally only visible when looking at darker areas on the screen, and usually invisible to the eye during ordinary computer use. Cause Liquid crystals have a natural relaxed state. When a voltage is applied they rearrange themselves to block certain light waves. If left with the same voltage for an extended period of time (e.g. displaying a poin ...

Persistence Of Vision
Persistence of vision is the optical illusion that occurs when the visual perception of an object does not cease for some time after the Light ray, rays of light proceeding from it have ceased to enter the eye. The illusion has also been described as "retinal persistence", "persistence of impressions", simply "persistence" and other variations. A very commonly given example of the phenomenon is the apparent fiery trail of a glowing coal or burning stick while it is whirled around in the dark. In recent theories about iconic memory, visual sensory memory, higher-level (cortical) informational persistence is considered a more relevant component of normal vision than the lower-level aspect of visible persistence. Many explanations of the illusion actually seem to describe Afterimage#Positive afterimages, positive afterimages and the neurological effect can be compared to the technological effect of motion blur in photography (or in film and video). "Persistence of vision" can a ...

As with previous releases, the album features music of numerous genres, including psychedelia, progressive rock, heavy metal and synth-pop, as well as the band's first experiments with hip hop. It received generally positive reviews, although critics were divided on its length and consistency. Background and recording During the production of the 2019 album '' Fishing for Fishies'', the band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard recorded at a house owned by members of Tropical Fuck Storm. The two bands together recorded a jam session informally titled "Hat Jam" (named after the hats worn by the various member ...

Persist (Java Tool)
Persist is a Java-based ORM/ DAO tool. It provides only the minimal amount of functionalities necessary to map objects or maps from database queries and to statement parameters. Persist works around a java.sql.Connection object. This means that it does not care about customer query languages (it uses plain SQL with placeholders, as PreparedStatement objects use), connection pool handling, transaction handling (for the most part), and so on. This also means it is very flexible, and can be integrated with any code that depends on JDBC (including code that already use another ORM/ DAO tool). Persist does not require explicit mappings from POJOs to database tables. As long as there is some sort of naming conventions that relate database names with POJO names, Persist will require virtually no mappings. It can, however, be instructed to map Java classes and fields to database tables and columns using annotations. Persist supports several different mapping strategies: POJOs mapped ...

The studio is staffed by some developers that were part of Psygnosis and the five people in the studio's core leadership team have worked on games for every PlayStation console. Psygnosis was mostly known for the ''Wipeout'' series. In 2013, the team worked on the visuals of one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4, an augmented reality tech demo, '' The Playroom''. Persist, Oregon
Persist is a ghost town in Jackson County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It lies in the mountains north of Lost Creek Lake on the Rogue River downstream of Prospect. History Persist was so named because the town "persisted" for over a decade until the request of local residents for a post office was granted. William W. Willitts, who with his wife had persisted in seeking the post office, was the first postmaster. Before this, the Willitts and others in Persist got their mail by going to Trail A trail, also known as a path or track, is an unpaved lane or a small paved road (though it can also be a route along a navigable waterways) generally not intended for usage by motorized vehicles, usually passing through a natural area. Persistence (log Canoe)
The ''Persistence'' is a Chesapeake Bay log canoe, built in the 1890s, possibly by John B. Harrison in Tilghman, Maryland. She measures 32'-4" long, with a beam of 6'-11" and is double-ended with no longhead on her bow. She is one of the last 22 surviving traditional Chesapeake Bay racing log canoes that carry on a tradition of racing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that has existed since the 1840s. She is located at St. Michaels, Talbot County, Maryland. Persistence Forecasting
Weather forecasting or weather prediction is the application of science and technology to predict the conditions of the atmosphere for a given location and time. People have attempted to predict the weather informally for thousands of years and formally since the 19th century. Weather forecasts are made by collecting quantitative data about the current state of the atmosphere, land, and ocean and using meteorology to project how the atmosphere will change at a given place. Once calculated manually based mainly upon changes in barometric pressure, current weather conditions, and sky conditions or cloud cover, weather forecasting now relies on computer-based models that take many atmospheric factors into account. Human input is still required to pick the best possible model to base the forecast upon, which involves pattern recognition skills, teleconnections, knowledge of model performance, and knowledge of model biases. The inaccuracy of forecasting is due to the chaotic nat ...

Persistence (psychology)
Persistence is a key personality trait, describing an individual's propensity to remain motivated, resilient, and goal-driven in the face of challenges and difficulties they may encounter whilst carrying out tasks and working towards goals. Identified by psychiatrist C. Robert Cloninger in his Psychobiological Model of Personality,Gillespie, N.A., Cloninger, C.Robert., Heath, A.C. and Martin, N.G. (2003). The genetic and environmental relationship between Cloninger’s dimensions of temperament and character. Personality and Individual Differences, 35(8), pp.1931–1946. doi:https://doi.org/10.1016/s0191-8869(03)00042-4. persistence more precisely refers to "perseverance in spite of fatigue or frustration".Cloninger, C.R., Svrakic, D.M. and Przybeck, T.R. Persistence (computer Science)
In computer science, persistence refers to the characteristic of State (computer science), state of a system that outlives (persists for longer than) the Process (computing), process that created it. This is achieved in practice by storing the state as data in computer data storage. Programs have to transfer data to and from storage devices and have to provide mappings from the native Programming language, programming-language Data structure, data structures to the storage device data structures. Picture editing programs or Word processor, word processors, for example, achieve State (computer science), state persistence by saving their documents to computer file, files. Orthogonal or transparent persistence Persistence is said to be "Orthogonality#Computer science, orthogonal" or "transparent" when it is implemented as an intrinsic property of the execution environment of a program. An orthogonal persistence environment does not require any specific actions by programs running i ...

Persistence (linguistics)
Grammaticalization (also known as grammatization or grammaticization) is a linguistic process in which words change from representing objects or actions to serving grammatical functions. Grammaticalization can involve content words, such as nouns and verbs, developing into new function words that express grammatical relationships among other words in a sentence. This may happen rather than speakers deriving such new function words from (for example) existing bound, inflectional constructions. For example, the Old English verb 'to want', 'to wish' has become the Modern English auxiliary verb ''will'', which expresses intention or simply futurity. Some concepts are often grammaticalized; others, such as evidentiality, less frequently. In explaining this process, linguistics distinguishes between two types of linguistic items: * lexical items or content words, which carry specific lexical meaning * grammatical items or function words, which serve mainly to express grammatical rel ...
