Persistence Of Vision
Persistence of vision is the optical illusion that occurs when the visual perception of an object does not cease for some time after the Light ray, rays of light proceeding from it have ceased to enter the eye. The illusion has also been described as "retinal persistence", "persistence of impressions", simply "persistence" and other variations. A very commonly given example of the phenomenon is the apparent fiery trail of a glowing coal or burning stick while it is whirled around in the dark. In recent theories about iconic memory, visual sensory memory, higher-level (cortical) informational persistence is considered a more relevant component of normal vision than the lower-level aspect of visible persistence. Many explanations of the illusion actually seem to describe Afterimage#Positive afterimages, positive afterimages and the neurological effect can be compared to the technological effect of motion blur in photography (or in film and video). "Persistence of vision" can a ...

Persistence (psychology)
Persistence is a key personality trait, describing an individual's propensity to remain motivated, resilient, and goal-driven in the face of challenges and difficulties they may encounter whilst carrying out tasks and working towards goals. Identified by psychiatrist C. Robert Cloninger in his Psychobiological Model of Personality,Gillespie, N.A., Cloninger, C.Robert., Heath, A.C. and Martin, N.G. (2003). The genetic and environmental relationship between Cloninger’s dimensions of temperament and character. Personality and Individual Differences, 35(8), pp.1931–1946. doi:https://doi.org/10.1016/s0191-8869(03)00042-4. persistence more precisely refers to "perseverance in spite of fatigue or frustration".Cloninger, C.R., Svrakic, D.M. and Przybeck, T.R. (1993). A psychobiological model of temperament and character. Archives of general psychiatry, nline50(12), pp.975–90. doi:https://doi.org/10.1001/archpsyc.1993.01820240059008. According to Cloninger, this perseverance demonstr ...

Persistence (computer Science)
In computer science, persistence refers to the characteristic of State (computer science), state of a system that outlives (persists for longer than) the Process (computing), process that created it. This is achieved in practice by storing the state as data in computer data storage. Programs have to transfer data to and from storage devices and have to provide mappings from the native Programming language, programming-language Data structure, data structures to the storage device data structures. Picture editing programs or Word processor, word processors, for example, achieve State (computer science), state persistence by saving their documents to computer file, files. Orthogonal or transparent persistence Persistence is said to be "Orthogonality#Computer science, orthogonal" or "transparent" when it is implemented as an intrinsic property of the execution environment of a program. An orthogonal persistence environment does not require any specific actions by programs running i ...

Firesprite
Firesprite is a British video game developer based in Liverpool. It was established in 2012 by former members of Studio Liverpool. In September 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment, who had been the parent of Studio Liverpool, acquired the company, making them a first-party developer for PlayStation Studios. History Firesprite was founded in 2012 by Graeme Ankers as managing director, Lee Carus as art director, Chris Roberts as technical director, Stuart Tilley as game director, and Stuart Lovegrove as programming director. The studio is staffed by some developers that were part of Psygnosis and the five people in the studio's core leadership team have worked on games for every PlayStation console. Psygnosis was mostly known for the ''Wipeout'' series. In 2013, the team worked on the visuals of one of the launch titles for the PlayStation 4, an augmented reality tech demo, '' The Playroom''. '' Run Sackboy! Run!'' followed on mobile devices in 2014 and received mixed reviews. ...

Persistence (log Canoe)
The ''Persistence'' is a Chesapeake Bay log canoe, built in the 1890s, possibly by John B. Harrison in Tilghman, Maryland. She measures 32'-4" long, with a beam of 6'-11" and is double-ended with no longhead on her bow. She is one of the last 22 surviving traditional Chesapeake Bay racing log canoes that carry on a tradition of racing on the Eastern Shore of Maryland that has existed since the 1840s. She is located at St. Michaels, Talbot County, Maryland. She was listed on the National Register of Historic Places The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the Federal government of the United States, United States federal government's official United States National Register of Historic Places listings, list of sites, buildings, structures, Hist ... in 1985. Persistence (discontinuity)
Persistence determines the possibilities of relative movement along a discontinuity in a soil or rock mass in geotechnical engineering. Discontinuities are usually differentiated in persistent, non-persistent, and abutting discontinuities (figure). Persistent discontinuity A ''persistent discontinuity'' is a continuous plane in a soil or rock mass. Shear displacement takes place if the shear stress along the discontinuity plane exceeds the shear strength of the discontinuity plane. Non-persistent discontinuity A ''non-persistent discontinuity'' ends in intact soil or rock. Before movement of the material on both sides of a non-persistent discontinuity is possible, the discontinuity has to extend and break through intact material. As intact material has virtually always far higher shear strength than the discontinuity, a non-persistent discontinuity will have larger shear strength than a persistent discontinuity. Abutting discontinuity An ''abutting discontinuity'' abuts aga ...

Persistence Forecasting
Weather forecasting or weather prediction is the application of science and technology to predict the conditions of the atmosphere for a given location and time. People have attempted to predict the weather informally for thousands of years and formally since the 19th century. Weather forecasts are made by collecting quantitative data about the current state of the atmosphere, land, and ocean and using meteorology to project how the atmosphere will change at a given place. Once calculated manually based mainly upon changes in barometric pressure, current weather conditions, and sky conditions or cloud cover, weather forecasting now relies on computer-based models that take many atmospheric factors into account. Human input is still required to pick the best possible model to base the forecast upon, which involves pattern recognition skills, teleconnections, knowledge of model performance, and knowledge of model biases. The inaccuracy of forecasting is due to the chaotic nat ...
