Outward Bound
Outward Bound (OB) is an international network of outdoor education organisations that was founded in the United Kingdom by Lawrence Holt in 1941 based on the educational principles of Kurt Hahn. Today there are organisations, called schools, in over 35 countries which are attended by more than 150,000 people each year. Outward Bound International is a non-profit membership and licensing organisation for the international network of Outward Bound schools. The Outward Bound Trust is an educational Charitable organization, charity established in 1946 to operate the schools in the United Kingdom. Separate organisations operate the schools in each of the other countries in which Outward Bound operates. Outward Bound New Zealand
Outward Bound New Zealand (OBNZ) is a non-profit organisation providing experiential education in New Zealand. Its stated goal is to help participants reach their potential "through challenge in the outdoors". In total, more than fifty thousand students have attended the school. Like other Outward Bound International member organisations, its educational philosophy is derived from the work of German educator Kurt Hahn. Its motto is a favourite saying of his, ''"plus est en vous"'' ("there is more in you"). The school is located in Anakiwa, New Zealand, Anakiwa. Lawrence Holt
Lawrence Durning Holt (17 November 1882 – 1961) was a businessman with interests in shipping. He founded the Outward Bound organisation in 1941, based on the educational principles of Kurt Hahn. Life and career Lawrence Durning Holt was born in 1882 to Robert Durning Holt and Lawrencina Potter, a daughter of businessmen Richard Potter. Holt was part of a close-knit family that had business interests in the Blue Funnel Shipping Line and its associated companies, such as the Ocean Steam Ship Company. By the 1920s, Holt was a partner in and managing director of the Ocean Steam Ship Company. Lumut is a coastal town and mukim in Manjung District, Perak, Malaysia, situated about southwest of the state capital city of Ipoh, north from the town of Sitiawan. Eskdale Green
Eskdale Green is a village in Cumbria, England, 10 miles west of Coniston. Historically in Cumberland, it lies off the A595 road and is one of the few settlements in Eskdale. Main sights The village is centred on the small St. Bega's Church and hall. Since 1950 the Outward Bound Trust has owned Gate House mansion near the centre of the village, which they operate as an outdoor adventure and education centre for young people. In late summer the grounds of Gate House are the venue for the annual Eskdale Fête. The Gate House grounds used to encompass the Giggle Alley Forest, to the northwest of the village, which is now open to the public and contains of woodland, including a secluded Japanese garden designed by Thomas Mawson.
