Narrandera Shire is a local government area in the Riverina region of south-western New South Wales, Australia. The Shire is located adjacent to the Sturt and Newell Highways. The present Narrandera Shire was formed on 1 January 1960 by an amalgamation of the previous Narrandera Municipality and Yanko Shire. The first Narrandera Municipality was incorporated on 18 March 1885. Narrandera Shire is a large shire in the geographical centre of the Riverina, with over of roads within its boundaries. The Shire includes the town of Narrandera and the villages of Grong Grong, Binya and Barellan. The mayor of Narrandera Shire is Cr. Neville Kschenka, an independent politician. Barellan, New South Wales
Barellan is a small town in Narrandera Shire in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. On Census night 2021, Barellan had a population of 276. It is a quiet Riverina wheat town on the Burley Griffin Way, with characteristic silos, and functions primarily as a service centre for the surrounding agricultural area. History The name of Barellan is an Aboriginal expression that literally means the meeting of the waters. The railway reached Barellan in 1908 and a post office was opened on 1 April 1909. The Commercial Hotel, "a typically large and rather gracious hotel with an impressive upper verandah", was built in 1924. Binya, New South Wales
Binya is a farming community in the centre of the Riverina area of New South Wales, Australia. The village is situated about east of Griffith along Burley Griffin Way, heading in the direction of Ardlethan. Facilities and services The Temora–Roto railway line opened in 1916. Grong Grong is a small town that is located in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The town is situated on the Newell Highway, east of Narrandera in the Narrandera Shire, Shire of Narrandera. The name ''Grong Grong'' is an Indigenous Australians, Aboriginal term meaning "bad camping ground" or "very bad camping ground".
