Bargen, Bern
Bargen is a municipality in the Seeland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Bargen is first mentioned in 1228 as ''Bargen''. The earliest traces of humans are some scattered Bronze Age items at Bargenfeld and Neolithic and Hallstatt items in a gravel pit. It lies on the Roman road from Aventicum to Petinesca, of which some remains are still visible. There are some medieval ruins, which are probably from the cluniac priory's barge and bridge, between the old Aare bridge and village. In 1831-32 fortifications were built in the village to protect the strategic Aare river crossing. It was part of the herrschaft of Aarberg and came with Aarberg under Bernese control in 1375. The romanesque- gothic village church of St Mary was first mentioned in 1228. It the 14th century it was under the patronage of the lords of La Roche. Blumenstein
Blumenstein is a Municipalities of Switzerland, municipality in the administrative district of Thun (administrative district), Thun, in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Blumenstein is first mentioned in 1305 as ''Bluomenstein''. Tannenbühl, which became Outer-Blumenstein in 1859, was first mentioned in 1316 as Tannenbuel. Inner-Blumenstein was sold in 1348 by Peter von Raron to the city of Bern. Soon thereafter they sold the villages to a family that renamed themselves ''von Blumenstein''. They may have built a castle above the Fallbach as an ancestral seat. In 1386, they sold the village and over the following centuries portions of the village and surroundings were sold or inherited several times. The castle fell into disrepair and was demolished in 1606. In 1642 the last owner, Hans Franz von Wattenwyl, sold the village back to Bern. Bettenhausen, Switzerland
Bettenhausen is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. On 1 January 2011, the former municipality of Bollodingen was merged with Bettenhausen. History Bettenhausen is first mentioned in 1335 as ''Bettenhusen''. A few scattered neolithic artifacts have been found in the municipality, from prehistoric settlements in the Aare valley. During the Middle Ages the village was part of the lands of the Freiherr of Aarburg. In 1429 he sold the village to the town of Burgdorf. Berken
Berken is a municipality in the Oberaargau administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Berken is first mentioned in 1272 as ''Berinkon''. A few scattered mesolithic and neolithic artifacts have been found in the municipality, from prehistoric settlements in the Aare valley. During the Middle Ages it was a small farming settlement in the ''Herrschaft'' and later bailiwick of Aarwangen. Bellmund () is a municipality in the Biel/Bienne administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Bellmund is first mentioned in 1107 as ''Bellus mons''. In 1228 it was mentioned as ''Belmunt''. The municipality was formerly known by its French name ''Belmont'' though that name is rarely used. The oldest traces of a settlement in the area are a few, scattered neolithic items found on the Jensberg hill. Later traces include Roman era iron ingots which were found in the Wilerholz and the remains of what may have been a Roman road to Sutz. A few early medieval graves were found in the modern village. During the High Middle Ages, Knebelburg Castle (also spelled Chnebelburg) was built on the Jensberg. By 1107 the royal family of Burgundy founded a Cluniac priory near the village.
