Ivanpah Valley
The Ivanpah Valley is in southeastern California and southern Nevada in the United States. The valley is between the New York Mountains and the Ivanpah Mountains in San Bernardino County on the California side, and in Clark County on the Nevada side. The communities of Cima, California; Nipton, California; Jean, Nevada; and Primm, Nevada are in the valley. The Ivanpah Dry Lake, a popular place for land sailing, and the site of the proposed Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport also lie in the valley. The headwaters of the valley lie in the south and southeast in the north of the Mojave National Preserve; the southeast of the valley is a water divide point at the south of the McCullough Range, with four valleys, and four mountain ranges. McCullough Range
The mountains in the McCullough Range lie mostly above the city of Henderson in the U.S. state of Nevada. The range has two distinct areas with the northern portion being primarily volcanic in origin, while the southern part of the range is primarily composed of metamorphic rock. McCullough Range was named after a pioneer settler. Wilderness Areas Some of the northern part of the range is designated as the North McCullough Wilderness by the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Land Management while some of the southern part of the range is similarly designated as the South McCullough Wilderness. In addition the North McCullough Wilderness is within Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area which allows further protection and enhancement. Lanfair Valley
Lanfair Valley is located in the Mojave Desert in southeastern California near the Nevada state line. The valley is bounded on the north by the New York Mountains and Castle Mountains (California), Castle Mountains, on the east by the Piute Range, and on the south by the Woods Mountains and Vontrigger Hills. Yucca brevifolia, Joshua Trees can be found in most of the valley. Elevation is 4,045 feet. The valley proper is drained southeastwards, then due south by the Sacramento Wash (California), Sacramento Wash; the wash then turns due-east and combines with the Piute Wash drainage (south out of Nevada), to immediately enter the west bank of the Colorado River. Ivanpah Solar Power Facility
The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is a concentrated solar thermal plant located in the Mojave Desert located at the base of Clark Mountain in California, across the state line from Primm, Nevada. It is slated to close in 2026. The plant has a gross capacity of 392 megawatts (MW). It uses 173,500 heliostats, each with two mirrors focusing solar energy on boilers located on three solar power towers. The first unit of the system was connected to the electrical grid in September 2013 for an initial synchronization test. The facility formally opened on February 13, 2014. In 2014, it was the world's largest solar thermal power station. The $2.2 billion facility was developed by BrightSource Energy and Bechtel.
