Interstellar Messages
This is a list of notable interstellar radio messages (IRMs) transmitted from Earth. Many of these were sent in the aim of searching for extra-terrestrial intelligence (SETI), and are often called ' active SETI' or 'METI' (Messages to Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) projects. Interstellar Communication
Interstellar communication is the transmission of signals between planetary systems. Sending interstellar messages is potentially much easier than interstellar travel, being possible with technologies and equipment which are currently available. However, the distances from Earth to other potentially inhabited systems introduce prohibitive delays, assuming the limitations of the speed of light. Even an immediate reply to radio communications sent to stars tens of thousands of light-years away would take many human generations to arrive. Gliese 49
Gliese 49 is a star in the northern constellation of Cassiopeia. Visually, it is located 106 arcminutes north of the bright star γ Cassiopeiae. With an apparent visual magnitude of 9.56, it is not observable with the naked eye. It is located, based on the parallax of Gaia (), 32.1 light-years away from the Solar System. The star is drifting closer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −6 km/s. This object is a red dwarf star of spectral type M1.5V. Much dimmer than the Sun, it has a total luminosity that is 4.9% that of the Sun; it is, however, much brighter than other nearby red dwarfs such as Proxima Centauri or Wolf 359. It has an effective temperature of . Its mass is 52% that of the Sun, and 51% of its radius. It rotates on its axis with a projected rotation speed of under 2 km/s, and has a rotation period of 18.86 days. Teegarden's Star
Teegarden's Star (''SO J025300.5+165258'', ''2MASS J02530084+1652532'', ''LSPM J0253+1652'') is an stellar classification, M-type red dwarf star in the constellation Aries (constellation), Aries, from the Solar System. Although it is List of nearest stars and brown dwarfs, near Earth it is a dim apparent magnitude, magnitude 15 and can only be seen through large telescopes. This star was found to have a very large proper motion of about 5 arcseconds per year. Only seven stars with such large proper motions are currently known. Teegarden's Star hosts a planetary system with at least three planets. Discovery Teegarden's Star was discovered in 2003 using asteroid-tracking data that had been collected years earlier. TZ Arietis
TZ Arietis (also known as Gliese 83.1, GJ 9066, or L 1159-16) is a red dwarf in the northern constellation of Aries. With a normal apparent visual magnitude of 12.3, it is too faint to be seen by the naked eye, although it lies relatively close at a distance of . It is a flare star, which means it can suddenly increase in brightness for short periods of time. Variability William E. Kunkel announced that TZ Arietis is a variable star in 1968. It is a flare star, showing brief increases in brightness due to eruptions from its surface. In the ultraviolet, flares of over a magnitude have been observed. In addition it shows longterm variations in brightness which may be due to starspots and rotation, possibly classifying it as a BY Draconis variable. Active SETI (Active Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) are attempts to send messages to intelligent extraterrestrial life. A Message From Earth
Gliese 581c (Gl 581c or GJ 581c) is an exoplanet orbiting within the Gliese 581 system. It is the second planet discovered in the system and the third in order from the star. With a mass about 6.8 times that of the Earth, it is classified as a super-Earth (a category of planets with masses greater than Earth's up to ten Earth masses). At the time of its discovery in 2007, Gliese 581c gained interest from astronomers because it was reported to be the first potentially Earth-like planet in the habitable zone of its star, with a temperature right for liquid water on its surface, and, by extension, potentially capable of supporting extremophile forms of Earth-like life.
