Illycaffè S.p.A. (branded and stylised as illy) is an Italian coffee company specializing in espresso, headquartered in Trieste. Illy markets its coffee globally in silver and red pressurized, oxygen-free cans; operates a network of cafes on shopping streets, in museums, and in airports; and, since 2009, has marketed a line of coffee-flavoured energy drinks as ''illy issimo''. Either as whole beans or ground coffee, Illy offers medium, dark, and decaffeinated roast variations, as well as single-origin arabica variations, as available, each from Brazil, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Tanzania, or India. Ernesto Illy
Ernesto Illy (July 18, 1925 – February 3, 2008) was an Italian food chemist and businessman, known as the chairman of the Illycaffè S.p.A. coffee manufacturer. He was deeply and widely respected, and is considered "an absolute giant" in the world of coffee and espresso, He spearheaded Illy's research into coffee and espresso quality, as summarized in his son Andrea's book, ''Espresso: The Chemistry of Quality,'' which was written with Ernesto's assistance. Francesco Illy
Francesco Illy ( Hungarian: Illy Ferenc; 7 October 1892 – 1956) was a Hungarian-born accountant, bookkeeper, businessman and philanthropist, best known for founding Illy and inventing various coffee-related machinery. Born in Temesvár, in the Banat region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (today Timișoara, Romania), he later became a naturalized Italian citizen while retaining his Hungarian nationality. Andrea Illy (born 2 September 1964) is an Italian businessman. He is the Chairman of illycaffè S.p.A., a family coffee business founded in Trieste in 1933. He has additionally been Chairman of Altagamma since 2013. Life and education Illy was born on 2 September 1964 in Trieste, the son of Ernesto Illy. IperEspresso
iperEspresso is a single-serve capsule system for preparing espresso coffee and espresso-based drinks, developed and patented by Illy. Capsules iperEspresso capsules contain a complete extraction group that replaces the traditional percolation process with a two-stage extraction. In the first stage, ''iper-infusion'', hot water under pressure creates conditions that bring out coffee flavor and aroma. In the second stage, emulsification, the iper-infusion is forced through the valve at the bottom of the capsule, by mixing the aromatic oils with air to produce cream. iperEspresso capsules are manufactured only by Illy. Riccardo Illy (born 24 September 1955) is an Italian businessman and former politician. Biography Riccardo Illy was born in Trieste, Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
