Hougang
Hougang () is a planning area and mature residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. It is the largest housing estate in Singapore based on land area, and is home to 247,528 residents as of 2018. Hougang planning area is bordered by Sengkang to the north, Ang Mo Kio to the northeast, Geylang to the south, Bedok to the southeast, Toa Payoh to the southwest, Serangoon to the west and Paya Lebar to the east. Geography Subzones Hougang is separated into 10 subzones, Hougang East, Defu Industrial Park, Tai Seng, Lorong Halus, Kangkar, Hougang West, Trafalgar, Lorong Ah Soo, Kovan and Hougang Central. Hougang Single Member Constituency
The Hougang Single Member Constituency is a single member constituency (SMC) located in the north-eastern area of Singapore. The current Member of Parliament is Dennis Tan from the Workers' Party (WP). History The constituency was first formed prior to the 1988 general election and was won by the People's Action Party (PAP) in its debut. However, PAP's representation of Hougang SMC would only last three years, when it lost the seat to the Workers' Party (WP) candidate Low Thia Khiang after an almost 12% swing during the 1991 general election. In the 2006 general election, then- Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong was tasked with helping the PAP to win back the two opposition wards of Hougang SMC and Potong Pasir SMC, the former of which was promised a $100 million upgrading plan. Kovan, Hougang
Kovan ( ; ) is a neighbourhood located within the town of Hougang, in Singapore. The neighbourhood today largely consists of private housing properties, where majority of the residents live in terrace homes, semi-detached houses and bungalows. Geography As part of Hougang, Kovan is situated east of Serangoon, in Singapore. As a relatively small suburb, Kovan's boundaries are relatively unclear. The Urban Redevelopment Authority defines its boundaries as Hougang Avenue 2 to the north, Yio Chu Kang Road to the west, southwest and south and Upper Serangoon Road to the east. However in reality, numerous Kovan amenities are at the other side of Upper Serangoon Road outside the above boundary. Punggol Park
Punggol Park ( Chinese: 榜鹅公园) is a park located in Hougang, in the north-eastern part of Singapore. The park is in size, with a lake. Kite flying is not allowed here due to the proximity of Paya Lebar Air Base. The park has two distinctive zones: the "Southern Active Zone" where the features for major activities are provided, and the densely forested area in the north of the lake which forms the "Passive Zone". The plan for a park at Hougang was announced in November 1992. The park was named Punggol Park, and the junction of Hougang Avenue 8 and Hougang Avenue 10 was chosen as the location. The park is known for its pond and used frequently by schools for their runs. The pond was once quarried for sand to reclaim the many swamps in Hougang, thus resulting in the pond we have today. Aljunied Group Representation Constituency
The Aljunied Group Representation Constituency is a five-member group representation constituency (GRC) in the north-eastern and eastern region of Singapore. It consists of a large part of Hougang (excluding Hougang SMC), Paya Lebar, Serangoon Gardens, the southern half of Serangoon North as well as a portion of Bedok. The GRC consists of five divisions: Eunos, Bedok Reservoir-Punggol, Kaki Bukit, Serangoon and Paya Lebar. The Ang Mo Kio Group Representation Constituency is a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) in the North-East Region of Singapore. It has 5 wards: Teck Ghee, Buangkok–Fernvale South, Seletar–Serangoon, Cheng San and Ang Mo Kio–Hougang, managed by Ang Mo Kio Town Council. The Institute of Mental Health (IMH), formerly known as Woodbridge Hospital, is a psychiatric hospital in Hougang, Singapore. IMH is the only tertiary hospital in Singapore that specialises in psychiatry. It has over 50 wards and 2010 beds for inpatients and seven specialist clinics for outpatients. Kampong Lorong Buangkok (alternatively ''Kampung Lorong Buangkok''; Jawi: كامڤوڠ لوروڠ بواڠكوق; ) is a village located in Hougang, Singapore. Built in 1956, it is the last surviving kampong located on Singapore Island in the 21st century. It is situated right beside a canal that drains into the nearby Sungei Punggol. Kenneth Tiong Boon Kiat (; born 1988 or 1989) is a Singaporean politician.
