Homalin Township
Homalin Township ( ) is the only township of Homalin District () in the Sagaing Region of Myanmar (Burma). In 2022, the township was split out from Hkamti District to form the new Homalin District. Homalin
Homalin or Hommalinn ( ; , ''Hungmaklang'') is a small town in north-western Myanmar (Burma) and capital of the Homalin Township and Homalin District of the Sagaing Region. The town lies on the Chindwin River and is served by Homalin Airport. The Tamanthi Wildlife Reserve extends into the Homalin Township. Gold has been found in the river sand of Uyu River and extraction has been undertaken jointly with Russia under Vladimir Putin, the Russians. History The 1908 ''Imperial Gazetteer of India'' recorded that the steamers of the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company plied weekly between Pakokku and Homalin. Tanai Township () is the only township in Tanai District ( in northwestern Kachin State, northern Myanmar. The principal town is Tanai. On 30 April 2022, the Ministry of Home Affairs designated Tanai Township into a new district consisting of only itself. The Shadu Zup militia operates gold mines in the township. William Stevenson Meyer
Sir William Stevenson Meyer (13 February 1860 – 19 October 1922) was an Indian Civil Service officer. From 1920 until his death two years later, he served as the first High Commissioner for India. Biography Meyer was born to a Presbyterian minister, Theodore Jonah Meyer, and his wife Jane Ann. His younger sister was the mathematician Margaret Meyer. He attended University College School and University College London, before entering the Indian Civil Service in 1881. Meyer was assigned to the Madras Presidency as an assistant secretary, where he rose to become Chief Secretary of the Board of Revenue in 1890. In 1895, he entered the service of the Government of India as a deputy secretary in the Financial Department, and was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire (CIE) on 9 November 1901. Pakokku
Pakokku (, ) is the largest city in the Magway Region of Myanmar. It is situated about 30 km northeast of Bagan on the Irrawaddy River. It is the administration seat of Pakokku Township, Pakokku District and Gangaw District. Pakokku Bridge is part of the India–Myanmar–Thailand Trilateral Highway and is the longest bridge in Myanmar. Irrawaddy Flotilla Company
The Irrawaddy Flotilla Company (IFC) was a passenger and cargo ferry company, which operated services on the Irrawaddy River in Burma, now Myanmar. The IFC was Scottish-owned, and was managed by P Henderson & Company from Glasgow. The IFC operated from 1865 until the late 1940s. At its peak in the late 1920s, the IFC fleet was the largest fleet of river boats in the world, consisting of over 600 vessels carrying some 8-9 million passengers and 1¼ million tons of cargo a year. Beginnings The IFC was formed in 1865 as the Irrawaddy Flotilla and Burmese Steam Navigation Co Ltd, primarily to ferry troops up and down the Irrawaddy River and delta. Soon, the company was carrying passengers, rice, government stores, and mail from Rangoon to Prome, Thayetmyo and Mandalay, and then extended in 1868 to Bhamo.
