Groton, Suffolk
Groton is a village and civil parish in the Babergh District, Babergh district, Suffolk, England, located around a mile north of the A1071 between Hadleigh, Suffolk, Hadleigh and Sudbury, Suffolk, Sudbury. In 2021 the parish had a population of 299. The parish church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew is flint faced and has some 15th-century features; it was Victorian restoration, heavily restored in the 19th century. It is a Commonwealth War Grave site. The village has no shops but does have the pub the Fox and Hounds. In addition to Groton village, the parish contains the hamlet (place), hamlets of Broad Street, Suffolk, Broad Street, Castling's Heath, Gosling Green, Horner's Green, and Parliament Heath. The Groton Bridge Co. was an American construction company, based in Groton, New York. History The company was founded in 1877 as Groton Iron Bridge Company, by merger of two firms. It was reorganized and became the Groton Bridge and Manufacturing Company in 1887. It was purchased by the American Bridge Company in 1899 but was separated in 1902 as Groton Bridge Co. and survived under that name until the 1920s. The Village of Groton is near the center of the Town of Groton and is northeast of Ithaca and west of Cortland.
