Government Of Jersey
The Government of Jersey () is the executive body of the States of Jersey and is the central government of the Bailiwick of Jersey. The government is led by the Chief Minister (currently Lyndon Farnham, since 2024), who nominates all the remaining ministers, all elected by the States Assembly. All Ministers of the Government are required to be elected States members and are accountable to it. They make statements in and take questions from the assembly. The government is dependent on the assembly to make primary legislation, however ministers can make secondary legislation, such as Orders and Regulations. The government is not formed of one single party, but made of multiple independent members. The 'Government of Jersey' is the official identity of the executive and administrative arm of the States of Jersey. States Of Jersey Ambulance Service
The States of Jersey Ambulance Service (SJAS) is managed by the Justice and Home Affairs department. In 2022 in order to deal with peaks in demand and unexpected events it changed the way emergency calls were prioritised. Staff shortages were attributed to the cost of living on the island and it was suggested that there could be accommodation provided for the ambulance staff. Calls will be prioritised similarly to practice in NHS ambulance services. It launched a community first responders scheme in 2022. Performance The service was said to be a good organisation with "passionate and caring staff who provide a good quality of care to patients" when reviewed in 2022 but levels of staff were said to be inadequate in terms of meeting current demands. An overspend of around £400,000 was expected by the end of 2022. A lack of core capacity leads more agency staff being used and for staff doing more overtime. The ''Jersey Evening Post'' (''JEP'') is a local newspaper published six days a week in the Bailiwick of Jersey. It was printed in broadsheet format for 87 years, though it is now of compact ( tabloid) size. Its strapline is: "At the heart of island life". The Bailiwick of Jersey is a British Crown dependency, unitary state and parliamentary representative democracy and constitutional monarchy. A Parish Assembly in Jersey is the decision-making body of local government, comprising ratepayers (including ''mandataires'') and electors of the parish. Vingtaine
A vingtaine (, literally "group of twenty" in French) is a political subdivision of Jersey. They are subdivisions of the various parishes of Jersey, and one, La Vingtaine de la Ville (The Vingtaine of the town), in Saint Helier is further divided into two cantons. St. Ouen has ''cueillettes'' (Jèrriais: ''Tchilliettes'') instead of vingtaines. In each vingtaine, vingteniers and Constable's officers (in French: ''officiers du Connétable'') are elected as part of Jersey's Honorary Police system. They do not have to live within the vingtaine or cueillette they represent, but they must live in the parish they represent (except in St. Helier, where ratepayers and mandataires are eligible). States Of Jersey Police
The States of Jersey Police or States Police are a paid Police, police force in the Jersey, Bailiwick of Jersey. Alongside the unpaid Honorary Police, the States Police make up the 13 official police forces on the island, though the States Police are the only force to be paid and to operate island-wide. The States Police was established in its current form by the ''Police Force (Jersey) Law, 1974'' and consists of around 240 officers. Jersey Fire And Rescue Service
The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service is the statutory fire and rescue service which deals with a broad range of incidents on the island of Jersey, including fires, road accidents, emergencies at sea, rescues from height, cliff based operations and incidents involving hazardous substances. Performance A review of the service in 2022 highlighted "structural and resourcing challenges" which prevented it from fulfilling basic functions adequately and inhibited necessary change.
