Girlschool Members
Girlschool are a British rock band that formed in the new wave of British heavy metal scene in 1978. Frequently associated with contemporaries Motörhead, they are the longest-running all-female rock band, still active after more than 40 years. Formed from a school band called Painted Lady, Girlschool enjoyed strong media exposure and commercial success in the UK in the early 1980s with three albums of "punk rock, punk-tinged metal" and a few singles, but lost their momentum in the following years. In the 1990s and 2000s, Girlschool focused on shows and tours and made few studio albums. During their career they travelled the world, playing in many Rock festival, rock and metal festivals and co-headlining with or supporting important hard rock and heavy metal bands. They maintain a worldwide cult following, and are an inspiration for many female rock musicians. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a heavier subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and Distortion (music), distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the Garage rock, garage, Psychedelic rock, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, the Rolling Stones, Cream (band), Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The Collection (Girlschool Album)
''The Collection'' is a double CD compilation album of the all-female British heavy metal band Girlschool. The album was released in 1998 by Renaissance Records, under licence from Castle Communications, and reissued in 2000 by Sanctuary Records, of which Castle had become a subsidiary. Castle was the owner of Girlschool back catalogue, acquired from Bronze and GWR. The compilation contains five previously unreleased live tracks. All the tracks of the album were re-mastered by Robert M. Corich and Mike Brown in August 1998. The first CD contains all the singles released by Girlschool since 1983 with their b-sides, including the duet with Motörhead on the song " Please Don't Touch", originally released on the EP ''St. Valentine's Day Massacre''. Gary Graff (born 1960) is an American music journalist and author. Biography Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Graff attended Taylor Allderdice High School where he wrote for school newspaper ''The Taylor Allderdice Foreword''. He received his Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Missouri. He wrote for the ''Detroit Free Press'' from 1982 until 1995 when there was a strike at the newspaper. Graff refused to cross the picket line and subsequently lost his job. Graff has contributed to publications including ''The New York Times'', ''Billboard'', ''The Boston Globe, The Cleveland Plain Dealer,'' and ''San Francisco Chronicle'', as well as writing a regular columns for '' Guitar World'' Magazine, Ultimate Classic Rock and Consequence. Deirdre Cartwright
Deirdre Cartwright (born 27 July 1958) is a British guitarist and composer. Cartwright was a member of Painted Lady, which later became known as Girlschool; she left to form another band, Tour De Force. In 1983, Cartwright provided the guitar tuition element of the BBC/PBS series '' Rockschool'' alongside bass guitarist Henry Thomas and drummer Geoff Nicholls. In 1989, along with Alison Rayner, Cartwright started a regular monthly night at the Vortex Jazz Club called ''Blow The Fuse''. She was a member of the popular Guest Stars sextet which toured widely in the UK and abroad during the 1980s. She is currently a member of the Alison Rayner Quintet, and leads her own trio Organik. Cover Band
A cover band (or covers band) is a band that plays songs recorded by someone else, sometimes mimicking the original as accurately as possible, and sometimes re-interpreting or changing the original. These remade songs are known as cover songs. New or unknown bands often find the format marketable for smaller venues, such as pubs, clubs or parks. The bands also perform at private events, for example, weddings and birthday parties, and may be known as a wedding band, party band, function band or band-for-hire.
