Fender (boating)
In boating, a fender is an air-filled ball or a device in other shape and material used to absorb the kinetic energy of a boat or vessel berthing against a jetty, quay wall or other vessel. Fenders, used on all types of vessels, from cargo ships to cruise ships, Ferry, ferries and personal yachts, prevent damage to vessels and berthing structures. To do this, fenders have high energy absorption and low reaction force. Fenders are typically manufactured out of rubber, foam elastomer or plastic. Rubber fenders are either extruded or made in a mold. The type of fender that is most suitable for an application depends on many variables, including dimensions and displacement of the vessel, maximum allowable stand-off, berthing structure, tidal variations and other berth-specific conditions. Fender (vehicle)
Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface. Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth, loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the tire's surface at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire rotates upward and forward and can throw objects into the air at other cars or pedestrians in front of the vehicle. A cowcatcher, also known as a pilot, is the device mounted at the front of a locomotive to deflect obstacles on the track that might otherwise damage or Derailment, derail it or the train. In the UK, small metal bars called ''life-guards'', ''rail guards'' or ''guard irons'' are provided immediately in front of the wheels. The Fender IV
The Fender IV were an American surf rock band of the 1960s. The Fender IV were started up in Baltimore, by guitarist Randy Holden. Although almost prevented by an incident with a bumble bee, he successfully moved the band to Southern California in 1963, in order to play for a more receptive audience. Their music was strongly influenced by Dick Dale, and The Ventures. When the popularity for surf music decreased their style changed to a vocal based sound, and they changed name to The Sons of Adam, bestowed upon them by the record producer Kim Fowley. In 2016, Randy Holden was contacted by Matt Quilter to play at the "Surf 101 Convention", Alpine Village, Torrence CA. The result was Randy reforming the Fender IV group with original rhythm guitarist, Joe Kooken (aka: Jac Ttanna).
