Felsted School is a co-educational independent school, independent boarding school, boarding and Day school, day school, situated in Felsted in Essex, England. It is in the British Public school (UK), public school tradition, and was founded in 1564 by Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich. Felsted is one of the 12 founder members of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference, and a full member of the Round Square (educational organisation), Round Square Conference of world schools. Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich
Richard Rich, 1st Baron Rich (July 1496 – 12 June 1567), was Lord Chancellor during King Edward VI of England's reign, from 1547 until January 1552. He was the founder of Felsted School with its associated almshouses in Essex in 1564. He was a beneficiary of the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and persecuted perceived opponents of the king and their policies. He played a role in the trials of Catholic martyrs Thomas More and John Fisher as well as that of Protestant martyr Anne Askew. Origins According to some sources, Rich was born in the London parish of St Lawrence Jewry, the second son of Richard Rich by Joan Dingley, but this is disputed. Also, according to Carter, he was born at Basingstoke, Hampshire, the son of John Rich (d. 1509?), of Penton Mewsey, Hampshire, and a wife named Agnes whose surname is unknown. Little Dunmow is a village situated in the Uttlesford district, in rural Essex, England, in the vale of the River Chelmer about east-southeast of the town of Great Dunmow. It can be reached from the Dunmow South exit of the A120 by following the road towards Braintree (B1256) for 3.2 km before turning right for the village. The centre of the old village, which has just 99 dwellings, is a further 0.6 km along the road. The Flitch Way, a linear country park along the route of the old Braintree to Bishop's Stortford railway, links Little Dunmow and the new settlement of Flitch Green. Flitch Green
Flitch Green is a civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. It consists of a housing development built outside the village of Little Dunmow. Flitch Green is near the A120 dual carriageway, the village of Felsted and the town of Great Dunmow, the last of which is about away. Flitch Green is on the site of an old sugar beet factory. The development, originally named 'Oakwood Park', is next to the Flitch Way, a public right of way between Bishop's Stortford and Braintree where the old railway line used to run. The name 'Flitch' refers to the local Flitch of bacon custom. Building of Flitch Green began in 2001. The population (in December 2008) was 1,200, increasing to 2,190 at the 2011 Census.
