Don Bluth
Donald Virgil Bluth ( ; born September 13, 1937) is an American filmmaker, animator, video game designer and author. He came to prominence working for Walt Disney Animation Studios, Walt Disney Productions before creating his own film studio in the early 1980s. Bluth is known for directing the animated films ''The Secret of NIMH'', ''An American Tail'', ''The Land Before Time (film), The Land Before Time'', ''All Dogs Go to Heaven'', ''Thumbelina (1994 film), Thumbelina'', ''Anastasia (1997 film), Anastasia'' and ''Titan A.E.'', and for his involvement in the Laserdisc game, LaserDisc games ''Dragon's Lair (1983 video game), Dragon's Lair'' and ''Space Ace''. Don Bluth Entertainment, Don Bluth Productions hired many animators away from Disney, and Bluth's films were a major competitor to Disney in the 1980s, leading up to the Disney Renaissance. The Secret Of NIMH
''The Secret of NIMH'' is a 1982 American animated Fantasy film, fantasy adventure film directed by Don Bluth in his directorial debut and based on Robert C. O'Brien (author), Robert C. O'Brien's children's novel, ''Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH''. Featuring an ensemble cast consisting of Elizabeth Hartman in her final film role as its protagonist, Mrs. Brisby, with Peter Strauss, Arthur Malet, Dom DeLuise, John Carradine, Derek Jacobi, Hermione Baddeley and Paul Shenar in supporting roles, the film was produced by Bluth's production company, Don Bluth Productions in association with Aurora Productions, Hollywood, Aurora Productions. ''The Secret of NIMH'' was released in the United States on July 2, 1982, by MGM/UA Entertainment Co. under the United Artists label. It was met with critical acclaim and won a Saturn Award for Best Animated Film of 1982.
