Cycling At The 2012 Summer Paralympics – Women's Individual Pursuit
The women's individual pursuit events at the 2012 Summer Paralympics took place on 30 August – 2 September at London Velopark. Classification Cyclists are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allows cyclists to compete against others with a similar level of function. The class number indicates the severity of impairment with "1" being most impaired. Pursuit cycling classes are: *B: Blind and visually impaired cyclists use a tandem bicycle with a sighted pilot on the front. *C 1–5: Cyclists with an impairment that affects their legs, arms and/or trunk, but are capable of using a standard bicycle. The 2012 Summer Paralympics, branded as the London 2012 Paralympic Games, were an international Multi-sport event, multi-sport parasports event held from 29 August to 9 September 2012 in London, England, United Kingdom. They were the 14th Summer Paralympic Games as organised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Simone Kennedy (born 4 January 1994) is an Australian cyclist. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and won a silver medal in the Cycling at the 2012 Summer Paralympics – Women's individual pursuit C1–3, individual pursuit C1-3. Anna Harkowska (; born 20 March 1980) is a Polish cyclist. She trained running and took up triathlon, and eventually focused her efforts on cycling. In May 2002, she was hit by a motorist in Szczecin, sustaining 26 fractures in her legs and nearly losing her left leg. After several surgeries and months of rehabilitation, she returned to professional cycling. Megan Fisher (born March 1, 1983) is a Canadian-American Paralympic athlete. She has won one gold, two silver, and one bronze medal for Team USA at the Paralympic Games. Early life and education Fisher grew up as an only child near Calgary, Alberta. After her parents separated, she moved to Hinsdale, Illinois, with her mother and divided her time with her father. Fisher was a walk-on at the University of Montana's NCAA Division 1 tennis team, which she played during her freshman year. While driving with her friend back to school for their sophomore year on June 30, 2002, they were both injured in a car accident. After being pulled out of the car by a witness, Fisher's left leg was amputated; her friend died due to her injuries. Susan "Sue" Powell, (born 30 May 1967) is an Australian cyclist. At the 2012 London Paralympics, she won a gold medal in the Women's Individual Pursuit C4, setting a new world record in the process, and a silver medal in the Women's Individual Pursuit C4. Allison Jones (athlete)
Allison Jones (born May 12, 1984 in Amarillo, Texas) is a Paralympic skier and cyclist for the United States of America. She was born with the birth defect proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), which left her without a right femur. She underwent surgery at age 7 months to amputate her right foot, allowing her to more easily wear a prosthetic leg. She received her first prosthetic leg at 9 months of age. London Velopark
Lee Valley VeloPark is a cycling centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, England. It is owned and managed by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, and it was opened to the public in March 2014. The facility was one of the permanent venues for the 2012 2012 Summer Olympics, Olympic and 2012 Summer Paralympics, Paralympic Games. Lee Valley VeloPark is at the northern end of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It has an indoor velodrome and a BMX racing track, which have been used for the Games, as well as a one-mile (1.6 km) road bicycle racing, road course and 5 miles (8 km) of Trail#Bicycle trail, mountain bike trails. Helen Sarah Scott (born 25 July 1990) is an English sprint cyclist. As well as competing as part of the Great Britain team Scott is also an able-bodied tandem cyclist, who since 2011 has acted as pilot for Paralympian Aileen McGlynn, Sophie Thornhill and Alison Patrick.
