Spoonerism
A spoonerism is an occurrence of speech in which corresponding consonants, vowels, or morphemes are switched (see metathesis) between two words of a phrase. These are named after the Oxford don and priest William Archibald Spooner, who reportedly commonly spoke in this way. Examples include saying "blushing crow" instead of "crushing blow", or "runny babbit" instead of "bunny rabbit". While spoonerisms are commonly heard as slips of the tongue, they can also be used intentionally as a word play. The first known spoonerisms were published by the 16th-century author François Rabelais and termed . In his novel '' Pantagruel'', he wrote ("insane woman at Mass, woman with flabby buttocks"). Etymology Spoonerisms are named for the Reverend William Archibald Spooner (1844–1930), Warden from 1903 to 1924 of New College, Oxford, who was allegedly susceptible to this mistake. The ''Oxford English Dictionary'' records the word ''spoonerism'' as early as 1900. The term was well-es ...

Cunning Stunts (Caravan Album)
''Cunning Stunts'' is the sixth studio album by the progressive rock band Caravan, released in 1975. It was their first album with the bass guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Mike Wedgwood. The title of the album is a spoonerism for "Stunning Cunts", which is typical of their cheeky use of language. Three previous Caravan albums with titles that are also sexual plays on words are '' If I Could Do It All Over Again, I'd Do It All Over You'' (1970), '' In the Land of Grey and Pink'' (1971) and ''For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night'' (1973). Background and recording For a stretch of several days David Hitchcock was simultaneously producing ''Cunning Stunts'' and Renaissance's '' Scheherazade and Other Stories'', so that he would have to work on ''Cunning Stunts'' at Tollington Park Studios during the day and on ''Scheherazade and Other Stories'' at Abbey Road Studios at night, an arrangement which Hitchcock felt negatively impacted both albums. Reception AllMusic described i ...

Cunning Stunts (Cows Album)
''Cunning Stunts'' is the fifth studio album by the Minneapolis-based noise rock band Cows, released in 1992 by Amphetamine Reptile Records. It was their first album where they began developing real melodies and patterns instead of their usual blasts of noise. The switch to producer Iain Burgess brought an increase in sound quality from previous albums. It was long since out print; however, MVD Audio reissued and distributed the album on CD and a limited edition "Blue Opaque" vinyl LP in 2016. The title is a spoonerism of the term "stunning cunts". The band Caravan used this title for their 1975 album. The album cover design alludes to the Reid Miles designed cover of Eric Dolphy's 1964 album ''Out to Lunch!'' The band supported the album with a North American tour. Critical reception The ''Chicago Sun-Times'' wrote that "the music is jarring and hannonSelberg's howling is initially user-unfriendly, yet his disturbed lyrics are undeniable." The ''Lancaster New Era'' listed ''Cu ...

Cunning Stunts (video)
''Cunning Stunts'' is a live album by heavy metal band Metallica. It was released in 1998 on DVD and VHS formats, and in Japan released on LaserDisc in 1999. The DVD features concert footage, band interviews, a documentary, behind the scenes footage, and a photo gallery consisting of approximately 1,000 photos taken by Anton Corbijn, some of which were used in the album sleeves for '' Reload''. Three of the performances feature multiple angles. During the performance of the song "Enter Sandman", the entire stage is set to appear to collapse and explode, with pyrotechnics and a technician (referred to in the extras as the "Burning Dude") who runs across the stage while on fire, as another technician swings overhead. This is also one of the few Metallica concerts that did not feature " The Ecstasy of Gold" as an intro. The title is a spoonerism of the words ''stunning cunts''. The band Caravan had already used this title for their 1975 album. The Cows used this title for th ...

"Fleet Street Goodies" (also known as "Cunning Stunts" and "The 'Goodies Clarion' Newspaper") is an episode of the British comedy television series ''The Goodies''. Written by The Goodies, with songs and music by Bill Oddie. Plot At the Goodies office, which is being used for their newspaper ''Clarion & Globe'', Bill is sighing sloppily over the framed photo of a very pretty girl, instead of concentrating on his job as a 'roving reporter'. When he is sent out on the street as a reporter, he returns to the office saying that nothing had happened that was newsworthy (this was in spite of a number of very unusual happenings taking place during Bill's walk). Then Bill remembers one item of interest, and Tim and Graeme look at him expecting a front-page scoop for their newspaper — but Bill's important item of news is that his "hat blew off". There is a comment that the father of the pretty girl, Mildred Makepeace, is willing to allow his daughter to marry the man who could make ...
