Craven Community College
Craven Community College is a public community college with its main campus in New Bern, North Carolina. It also has campuses in Havelock and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Established in 1965, it was originally an extension of Lenoir Community College—Craven IEC (Industrial Education Center). It later added degree-awarding programs in several technical fields and became a technical institute. In the early 1970s, college-transfer degrees were added and the school became a community college. Technical and transfer programs are offered to students. There are three campuses: New Bern (main campus), Havelock and MCAS Cherry Point in Craven County, North Carolina. East Carolina University (ECU) is a public research university in Greenville, North Carolina. It is the fourth largest university in North Carolina. Founded on March 8, 1907, as a teacher training school, East Carolina has grown from its original to almost today. Havelock High School
Havelock High School is a public high school located in Havelock, North Carolina, founded in 1956. Havelock is one of three high schools operated by the Craven County School District. The original campus is now the site of Havelock Middle School, and the current campus was built in 1971, although it has been expanded several times since. Serving grades 9–12, the school is one of three high schools in the Craven County Schools district. Students who attend Havelock High are living in the areas of Havelock, MCAS Cherry Point and Harlowe, with some students occasionally living in neighboring New Bern or James City. The past principal of the school has been Jeff Murphy since 2005 although he retired in 2019, and the current principal is Stacie Friebel. Fleet Readiness Center East (FRCE) is a US Navy aviation repair and maintenance facility located in Havelock, North Carolina on Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. FRC East is one of nine main subsidiaries of the Navy's Fleet Readiness Center Command History FRC East began operations during World War II as the Assembly and Repair Department(A&R) at MCAS Cherry Point, N.C. The A&R covered more than 500,000 square feet when it opened Dec. 16, 1943. During the 1960s, FRC East greatly expanded floor space to accommodate more room for repairing aircraft. Craven County
Craven County is located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 100,720. Its county seat is New Bern. The county was created in 1705 as Archdale Precinct from the now-extinct Bath County. It was renamed Craven Precinct in 1712 and gained county status in 1739. It is named for William, Earl of Craven, who lived from 1606 to 1697. Craven County is part of the New Bern, NC, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
