A cooperative federation or secondary cooperative is a cooperative in which all members are, in turn, cooperatives. A cooperative (also known as co-operative, coöperative, co-op, or coop) is "an autonomy, autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically-controlled wikt:Enterprise, enterprise". Retailers' cooperatives use their purchasing power to acquire discounts from manufacturers and often share marketing expenses.
