Center For International And Regional Studies
The Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS), located in Doha, Qatar, is a center for international and regional affairs. The center is a part of Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Qatar). The center works closely with SFS-Qatar Faculty to create research and publications, organize events and manage outreach activities. Founded in 2005, the center works mainly in four areas: research, events and conferences, outreach and publications. Its inaugural director, Mehran Kamrava, still directs the center as of 2015. The center's main activities are concentrated on the political affairs of the Middle East region, with a lesser emphasis being placed on global affairs. Transitional justice is a process which responds to human rights violations through judicial redress, political reforms and cultural healing efforts and other measures in order to prevent the recurrence of human rights abuse in a region or country. John Esposito
John Louis Esposito (born May 19, 1940) is an American academic, professor of Middle Eastern studies, Middle Eastern and religious studies, and scholar of Islamic studies, who serves as Professor of Religion, International Affairs, and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Patrick Laude
Patrick Laude is a scholar, author and teacher. His works deal with the relationship between mysticism, symbolism and poetry, as well as focusing on contemporary spiritual figures such as Simone Weil, Louis Massignon and Frithjof Schuon. Biography Born in France in 1958, he took a graduate degree in philosophy at the University of Paris IV Sorbonne while studying at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. He came to the US in the early eighties and obtained his Ph.D. in 1985 from Indiana University. He joined Georgetown University in 1991. Laude's scholarly work is primarily focused on comparative mysticism, the symbolic imagination in religion and literature, and Western interpretations of Asian contemplative traditions. Model United Nations
Model United Nations, also known as Model UN (MUN), is an educational simulation of the United Nations, which teaches students about diplomacy, international relations, global issues, and how the United Nations is run. During a model UN conference, delegates assume the roles of representatives of countries, organizations, or individuals to collaborate and present global issues. MUN fosters skills in research, public speaking, debating, writing, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. The Middle East (term originally coined in English language) is a geopolitical region encompassing the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, and Iraq. The term came into widespread usage by the United Kingdom and western European nations in the early 20th century as a replacement of the term Near East (both were in contrast to the Far East).
