Jean Charles Marie Grenier
Jean Charles Marie Grenier (; 1808–1875) was a French botanist and naturalist who was a professor to the University of Besançon, Faculty of Sciences at Besançon. In 1836 he received his doctorate in medicine, followed by his degree in sciences in 1844. At Besançon, he taught classes in natural history, zoology and botany, being appointed dean (education), doyen of the school in 1869.Google Books
Journal 1823-1833 by Charles Weiss, Suzanne Lepin Grenier is credited with the description of hundreds of botanical species, many of them in collaboration with Dominique Alexandre Godron (1807–1880), a professor of natural history at Nancy, France, Nancy. With Prof. Godron he published a three-volume work on French flora called ''Flore de France'' (1848–1856). Grenier was also author of ''Flore de la châine jurassique'' (Flora of the Jura ...

Capsella Bursa-pastoris
''Capsella bursa-pastoris'', known as shepherd's purse or lady's purse because of its triangular flat fruits, which are purse-like, is a small annual and ruderal flowering plant in the mustard family (Brassicaceae). Scientists have referred to this species as a protocarnivore, since it has been found that its seeds attract and kill nematodes as a means to locally enrich the soil. It is native to Eurasia but is naturalized and considered a common weed in many parts of the world, especially in colder climates. It has a number of culinary uses. Description ''Capsella bursa-pastoris'' plants grow from a rosette of lobed leaves at the base. From the base emerges a stem most often tall, but occasionally as much as or as little as , which bears a few pointed leaves which partly grasp the stem. The flowers, which appear in any month of the year in the British Isles, are white and small, in diameter, with four petals and six stamens. They are borne in loose racemes, and produce f ...

Capsella Rubella
''Capsella rubella'', the pink shepherd's-purse, is a plant species in the genus '' Capsella'', a very close relative of ''Arabidopsis thaliana'' and a member of the mustard family, Brassicaceae. It has a very similar appearance to ''Capsella bursa-pastoris'', but ''C. rubella'' has a diploid genome, whereas ''C. bursa-pastoris'' is tetraploid. ''Capsella rubella'' is used as a model plant to study the evolution of self-incompatibility into self-compatibility in plant reproduction. The species is found mostly in Mediterranean region. Separation of this species from its closest ancestor is predicted to have happened around 30,000 to 50,000 years ago. References rubella Rubella, also known as German measles or three-day measles, is an infection caused by the rubella virus. This disease is often mild, with half of people not realizing that they are infected. A rash may start around two weeks after exposure and ... Plants described in 1854 Flora of Malta ...

Capsella (plant)
''Capsella'' is a genus of herbaceous annual and biennial plants in the family Brassicaceae. It is a close relative of ''Arabidopsis'', '' Neslia'', and '' Halimolobos''. Some authors circumscribe ''Capsella'' to contain only three species: '' Capsella bursa-pastoris'', '' Capsella rubella'' and '' Capsella grandiflora''. , Kew's Plants of the World Online Plants of the World Online (POWO) is an online taxonomic database published by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. '' Capsella rubella'' is a self-fertilizing species that became self-compatible 50,000 to 100,000 years ago. Its outcrossing progenitor was ''Capsella grandiflora''. In general, the shift from outcrossing to self-fertilization is among the most common transitions in flowering plants. ''Capsella rubella'' is studied as a model for understanding the evolut ...
