Callan, County Kilkenny
Callan () is a town and Civil parishes in Ireland, civil parish in County Kilkenny in Republic of Ireland, Ireland. Situated 16 km (10 mi) south of Kilkenny on the N76 road to Clonmel, it is near the border with County Tipperary. It is the second largest town in the county, and had a population of 2,475 at the 2016 census of Ireland, 2016 census. Callen Point
Callen Point is a promontory in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It is located east-southeast of Yarmouth Village, on the southern banks of the Royal River, east of Larrabee's Landing and near the river's confluence with Casco Bay. It was an important defensive point during King Philip's War and King William's War of the 17th century. Its name is believed to derive from ''Calling'' Point, due to locals calling across to the garrison for assistance. It is named ''Cuttinge Pinte'' in the York County deeds. Callen Radcliffe Tjader Jr. ( ; July 16, 1925 – May 5, 1982) was an American Latin Jazz musician, often described as the most successful non-Latino Latin music (genre), Latin musician. He explored other jazz idioms, especially small group modern jazz, even as he continued to perform music of Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Although his main instrument was the vibraphone, Tjader was also accomplished on the Drum kit, drums, bongo drum, bongos, congas, timbales, and the piano. He worked with many musicians from several cultures. He is often linked to the development of Latin rock and acid jazz. Although the fusion of Jazz with Latin music is often pigeonholed as "Latin Jazz", Tjader's works swung freely between both styles. Bryan Callen (born January 26, 1967) is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer and podcaster. He studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse. Callen initiated his career as one of the original cast members on the sketch comedy series ''MADtv''. Herbert Bernard Callen (July 1, 1919 – May 22, 1993) was an American physicist specializing in thermodynamics and statistical mechanics. He is considered one of the founders of the modern theory of irreversible thermodynamics, and is the author of the classic textbook '' Thermodynamics and an Introduction to Thermostatistics'', published in two editions. During World War II, his services were invoked in the theoretical division of the Manhattan Project. Ian Wayne Callen (born 2 May 1955) is a former Australian cricketer who played in one Test match and five One Day Internationals between 1978 and 1982. He later ran a business making cricket bats from English willow he grew in Victoria and was the cricket writer for Sportshounds. Cricket career Callen made his first-class debut for Victoria in 1976–77. In his fourth Sheffield Shield match he took 4 for 55 and 5 for 15 in an innings victory for Victoria over South Australia, and in the next match he took 1 for 82 and 8 for 42 in a 10-wicket victory over Queensland. His only Test came against India in Adelaide in 1978. Michael Callen
Michael Callen (April 11, 1955 – December 27, 1993) was an American singer, songwriter, composer, author, and AIDS activist. Callen was diagnosed with AIDS in 1982 and became a pioneer of AIDS activism in New York City, working closely with his doctor, Dr. Joseph Sonnabend, and Richard Berkowitz. Together, they published articles and pamphlets to raise awareness about the correlation between risky sexual behaviors and AIDS. As a major contributor to the foundation of AIDS activism, specifically activism from People With AIDS, Callen helped draft unprecedented documents such as '' How to Have Sex in an Epidemic: One Approach,'' and The Denver Principles. In addition to his written work, Callen was a leader and founder of activist organizations including The People with AIDS Coalition and the Community Research Initiative. Sylvia Callen
Sylvia Callen Franklin, also known as Sylvia Lorraine Callen, and Sylvia Caldwell, was a young Chicago communist, recruited by Louis Budenz into the Communist Party USA's ''secret apparatus'' c. 1937. Callen was assigned by Dr. Gregory Rabinowitz to go to New York City and infiltrate the Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party (SWP) using the pseudonym "Sylvia Caldwell". She became the secretary of James Cannon, who headed the SWP. Callen later testified to a federal grand jury about her infiltration of the SWP and about how she provided information from the SWP offices to Rabinowitz.
