California Secretary Of State
The secretary of state of California is the chief clerk of the U.S. state of California, overseeing a department of 500 people. The Secretary of state (U.S. state government), secretary of state is elected for four year terms, like the state's other List of California state constitutional offices, constitutional officers; the officeholder is restricted by term limits to two terms. The current secretary of state is Shirley Weber, who assumed the role in 2021 after Alex Padilla's appointment to the US Senate. The Great Seal of the State of California was adopted at the California U.S. state, state Constitutional Convention (California), Constitutional Convention of 1849 and has undergone minor design changes since then, the last being the standardization of the seal in 1937. Ferris Foreman (August 24, 1808 – February 11, 1901) was an American lawyer, politician, and soldier. He fought in the Mexican–American War, and was a colonel commanding a volunteer regiment and the District of Southern California during the American Civil War. He was a presidential elector for Illinois in the 1848 elections. Early life Born in Nichols, Tioga County, New York. In 1836, he was practicing law in Utica, New York. However the next year he was a clerk of the Illinois House of Representatives in Vandalia, Illinois. He secured an appointment as U.S. Attorney for Illinois, from 1839 to 1841. In 1839, Ferris Foreman prosecuted the case of ''U.S. v. Gratiot'', in a case arising under a lease, by the government of a portion of the lead mines of Galena.
