British Sea Power
Sea Power, previously known as British Sea Power and initially as British Air Powers, are an English alternative rock band. The group's original lineup consisted of Jan Scott Wilkinson, known as Yan; Martin Noble, known as Noble; and Alison Cotton. By the time the band had begun its recording career, Cotton had departed, and two new members had joined: Neil Hamilton Wilkinson, known as Hamilton, and Matthew Wood, known as Woody. Eamon Hamilton joined the band in autumn 2002. He left in 2006 and was replaced by Phil Sumner, with Abi Fry joining the band in 2008. The wide-ranging nature of the band's material has led critics to liken their sound to a variety of groups, from The Cure and Joy Division to Pixies and Arcade Fire. Open Season (British Sea Power Album)
''Open Season'' is the second album from the Brighton-based English band, Sea Power, then known as "British Sea Power". It was released on 4 April 2005 to positive reviews. It showcased a more accessible, mainstream sound and reached No. 13 in the UK Albums Chart. Almost all of the songs on the album were recorded with Mads Bjerke, who had previously worked with the band on their 2003 album, '' The Decline of British Sea Power'' and also with Primal Scream, Girls Aloud and Spiritualized, and mixed by Bill Price, with the exceptions of "Please Stand Up" and "North Hanging Rock", which were produced and mixed by Graham Sutton and engineered by Phill Brown. "Oh Larsen B" was recorded by George Apsion and Tariq Zaid Al-Nasrawi. Two singles were released from the album, " It Ended on an Oily Stage" ( UK No. 18) and " Please Stand Up" (UK No. 34). Kendal
Kendal, once Kirkby in Kendal or Kirkby Kendal, is a market town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, England. It reached number 18 in the UK Singles Chart and was critically praised, with the ''NME ''New Musical Express'' (''NME'') is a British music, film, gaming and culture website, bimonthly magazine, and brand. Carrion/Apologies To Insect Life
"Carrion"/"Apologies to Insect Life" is a double A-side single by Sea Power. Both songs feature on their debut album, '' The Decline of British Sea Power'', and this was the first single to be issued after its release. Reaching No. 36 in the UK, the single received rave reviews and was the band's first Top 40 hit. Despite videos being made for both tracks and the nature of the release, most of the airplay and coverage was given to "Carrion", the more pop-oriented song, which is considered by many fans to be one of the band's defining tracks. Geoff Travis (born 2 February 1952) is the founder of both Rough Trade Records and the Rough Trade chain of record shops. A former drama teacher and owner of a punk record shop, Travis founded the Rough Trade label in 1976. The Wooden Horse
''The Wooden Horse'' is a 1950 British World War II war film directed by Jack Lee and starring Leo Genn, David Tomlinson and Anthony Steel. It is based on the book of the same name by Eric Williams, who also wrote the screenplay. The film depicts the true events of an escape attempt made by POWs in the German prison camp Stalag Luft III. The wooden horse in the title of the film is a piece of exercise equipment the prisoners use to conceal their escape attempt as well as a reference to the Trojan Horse which was also used to conceal men within. ''The Wooden Horse'' was shot in a low-key style, with a limited budget and a cast including many amateur actors. Brighton ( ) is a seaside resort in the city status in the United Kingdom, city of Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, England, south of London. Saloon (band)
Saloon was an English indie musical group from Reading, who formed in 1997 and disbanded in 2004. The band included Adam Cresswell (bass/synthesisers), Michael Smoughton (drums), added Alison Cotton (viola), Amanda Gomez (lead vocal) and Matt Ashton (guitars). Their first gig at The Fox and Hounds in Caversham. In 1999, Saloon came to the attention of DJ John Peel, who featured the band on his radio programme. The band recorded three Peel sessions, which aired 4 July 2001, 7 August 2002 and 19 April 2003. Career The band released songs through various independent labels including "Shopping" (Amberley Records), "Electron" (Bearos Records), "Snow" (Fortuna Pop), and "Impact" (Glamour Puss), a split with the Sonic Catering Band.
