Bangladesh Nationalist Party
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (), popularly abbreviated as BNP (), is a major List of political parties in Bangladesh, political party in Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by President of Bangladesh, President Ziaur Rahman, with a view of uniting people with a Bangladeshi nationalism, nationalist ideology. Later, the BNP emerged as one of the two traditionally dominant parties in Bangladesh, along with it's rival, the Awami League. Known as the "Party of the Freedom Fighters of the Battlefield" during it's establishment, the BNP was founded by Ziaur Rahman after the presidential election of 1978 and remained in its leadership until his Assassination of Ziaur Rahman, assassination in 1981. Following Rahman's assassination, his widow, Khaleda Zia, took over leadership of the party and presided as chairperson until her imprisonment, in 2018. Paltan
Paltan is a thana (precinct) of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. It is often said to be the center of Dhaka, dividing "Old Dhaka" and "New Dhaka". Paltan was made a thana in 2005 by then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. Paltan Thana was formed on 27 June 2005 comprising part of Motijheel thana. History The name Paltan came from a cantonment of the British East India Company. The name was derived from the English word platoon, but in reality a size of battalion or regiment. Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Krishak Dal () is the farmers wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party. History Former Bangladeshi President and founding chairman of BNP Ziaur Rahman established Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Krishak Dal on 30 December 1980. The first convening committee was led by Abdus Sattar Justice. In 1992, Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan and Shamsuzzaman Dudu were appointed the president and general secretary of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal. The Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal () commonly known as the Jubodal or Jubo Dal, is the youth wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). History Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal was established on 27 August 1978. On 23 November 2003, the group Hassan Bahini, followers of Jubo Dal Jhalokati District unit president Mir Ziauddin Mizan, attacked the residence of Jubo League Shakherhat union unit president Saidur Rahman Khan Swapan injuring five of his family members. Five members of Jubodal were injured in internal clashes in Barisal in September 2008. In March 2010, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal was appointed president of the Jubodal and Saiful Alam Nirob its general secretary. Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chatradal (; abbreviated as JCD), popularly known as Chatradal or Chatra Dal, is a Bangladeshi student organisation affiliated with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Dainik Dinkal is a daily newspaper published in the Bengali language. The newspaper is also known as the mouthpiece of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and is published from Dhaka. On February 19, 2023, the Bangladesh Press Council announced the closure of the publication of the newspaper. However later on 11 August 2024, the publication of the newspaper was approved. The United Peoples' Party (UPP) was a Bangladeshi political organisation founded by Kazi Zafar Ahmed in 1974. History Ahmed took the UPP to a coalition government with President Ziaur Rahman after he assumed the presidency through a referendum. Ahmed became Minister of Education, but left the coalition due to irreconcilable differences. However, many of his former colleagues joined Zia's new party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Ahmed also played a leading role in the anti military role of President of Bangladesh, President Hussain Muhammad Ershad. The National Awami Party (Bhashani) was a left wing political party in Bangladesh. History The National Awami Party (Bhashani) was established on 30 November 1967 when the National Awami Party split into two different fractions. The pro-Moscow fraction was National Awami Party (Wali), led by Khan Abdul Wali Khan, and the pro-Beijing was called National Awami Party (Bhashani), led by Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani. On 17 November 1974, two leaders of the party, Kazi Zafar Ahmed and Rashed Khan Menon, formed a new political party called the United Peoples' Party (Bangladesh), United People's Party.
