Argosy (magazine)
''Argosy'' was an American magazine, founded in 1882 as ''The Golden Argosy'', a children's weekly, edited by Frank Munsey and published by E. G. Rideout. Munsey took over as publisher when Rideout went bankrupt in 1883, and after many struggles made the magazine profitable. He shortened the title to ''The Argosy'' in 1888 and targeted an audience of men and boys with adventure stories. In 1894 he switched it to a monthly schedule and in 1896 he eliminated all non-fiction and started using cheap pulp paper, making it the first pulp magazine. Circulation had reached half a million by 1907, and remained strong until the 1930s. The name was changed to ''Argosy All-Story Weekly'' in 1920 after the magazine merged with ''All-Story Magazine, All-Story Weekly'', another Munsey pulp, and from 1929 it became just ''Argosy''. New Zealand's Exchange (), known commonly as the NZX, is the national stock exchange for New Zealand and a publicly owned company. Argosy Mountain
Argosy Mountain is an summit located in Flathead County of the U.S. state of Montana. Description Argosy Mountain is located in the Flathead Range, a subset of the Rocky Mountains. It is situated in the Great Bear Wilderness, on land managed by Flathead National Forest. Precipitation runoff from the mountain drains north to the Middle Fork Flathead River via Roaring, Argosy, and Dolly Varden creeks. Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises above Argosy Creek in one mile. The nearest higher neighbor is Trilobite Peak, to the east-southeast. Access to this remote peak is from the nearby Shafer Ranger Station at the Schafer landing strip which was grandfathered with the wilderness designation. Argosy Glacier
The Marsh Glacier () is a glacier about 110 km (70 mi) long that is a tributary of the Nimrod Glacier, which enters the west of the Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica. Location The Marsh Glacier flows north from the Antarctic polar plateau between the Miller Range to the west and Queen Elizabeth Range to the east into the Nimrod Glacier. It was seen by a New Zealand party of the CTAE (1956–58) and named for G.W. Marsh, a member of the party. Argosy (word)
An argosy is a merchant ship, or a fleet of such ships. As used by Shakespeare (e.g., in ''King Henry VI'', Part 3, Act 2, Scene VI; in the ''Merchant of Venice'', Act 1, Scene I and Scene III; and in ''The Taming of the Shrew'', Act 2, Scene I), the word means a flotilla of merchant ships operating together under the same ownership. It is derived from the 16th century city Ragusa (now Dubrovnik, in Croatia), a major shipping power of the day and entered the language through the Italian ''ragusea'', meaning a Ragusan ship. The word bears no relation to the ship ''Argo'' from Greek mythology (Jason and the Argonauts). Since "argosy" and "odyssey" sound similar in British English and both refer to ships or voyage by ship ("odyssey" refers to Odysseus' journey, not to his ship, which goes unnamed in Homer's ''Odyssey''), occasionally "argosy" is misused as a synonym for "odyssey", namely as an adventure. Freightliner Argosy
The Freightliner Argosy is a model line of Cab over, cabover trucks that was produced by the American truck manufacturer Freightliner Trucks, Freightliner from the 1999 to 2020 model years. Developed as the replacement for the FLB cabover, the Argosy was a Truck classification, Class 8 truck, configured primarily for highway use. Competing against the International 9000 (COE), International 9800, Kenworth K100E, and Peterbilt 362, the Argosy was the final Class 8 cabover marketed in North America, following the decline in use of the design in the United States and Canada. After the 2006 model year, Freightliner shifted mass production of the model line entirely to export, ending sales of Class 8 COEs in North America. Airstream
Airstream is an American brand of travel trailer easily recognized by the distinctive shape of its rounded and polished aluminum coachwork. This body shape dates back to the 1930s and is based on the Bowlus Road Chief, an earlier model of the all-aluminum travel trailer. Airstream trailers and recreational vehicles are manufactured in Jackson Center, Ohio, United States. The company, now a division of Thor Industries, is the oldest in the industry. History Airstream was created by Wally Byam who began building Masonite trailers in Los Angeles during the late 1920s. Armstrong Whitworth Argosy
The Armstrong Whitworth Argosy was a three-engine biplane airliner designed and produced by the British aircraft manufacturer Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft. It was the company's first airliner. The Argosy was developed during the early-to-mid 1920s in response to a statement by Imperial Airways that new multi-engined airliners were being sought to replace its single-engined counterparts then in use. Armstrong Whitworth proposed a relatively large biplane airliner, powered by three Armstrong Siddeley Jaguar engines; its construction largely composed of plywood and fabric supported by steel tubing. Imperial Airways opted to initially order a pair of aircraft to serve its European routes, while the Air Ministry ordered a single example as well. Argosy University was a private for-profit university with campuses throughout the United States owned by Dream Center Education Holdings (DCEH), LLC and Education Management Corporation. On February 27, 2019, the U.S. Department of Education stated that they were cutting off federal funding to Argosy University. All Argosy campuses were officially closed shortly thereafter. History Origins The origins of Argosy University trace to three separate institutions: the American School of Professional Psychology, the Medical Institute of Minnesota, and the University of Sarasota.
