Amphibian
Amphibians are ectothermic, anamniote, anamniotic, tetrapod, four-limbed vertebrate animals that constitute the class (biology), class Amphibia. In its broadest sense, it is a paraphyletic group encompassing all Tetrapod, tetrapods, but excluding the amniotes (tetrapods with an amniotic membrane, such as modern reptiles, birds and mammals). Amphibious Caterpillar
Amphibious caterpillar refers to over 40 species of semiaquatic caterpillars endemic to Hawaii that are the only insect larvae that live as readily in water as on land. In 2010, Daniel Rubinoff and Patrick Schmitz at the University of Hawaii at Manoa first described the amphibious habits of the larvae in the moth genus '' Hyposmocoma'' of the family Cosmopterigidae. Young of each species thrive both underwater in rushing streams and exposed to air on rocks poking out of the water. Rubinoff states, "These species are at least as different as chimpanzees are from us". While some other caterpillars can survive for short periods under water, they are possibly the only air-breather that can thrive exclusively there. Amphibious Fish
Amphibious fish are fish that are able to leave water for extended periods of time. About 11 distantly related genera of fish are considered amphibious. This suggests that many fish genera independently evolved amphibious traits, a process known as convergent evolution. These fish use a range of methods for land movement, such as lateral undulation, tripod-like walking (using paired fins and tail), and jumping. Many of these methods of locomotion incorporate multiple combinations of pectoral-, pelvic-, and tail-fin movement. Many ancient fish had lung-like organs, and a few, such as the lungfish and bichir, still do. Some of these ancient "lunged" fish were the ancestors of tetrapods. In most recent fish species, though, these organs evolved into the swim bladders, which help control buoyancy. ''Scolopendra cataracta'' is a species of centipede in the family Scolopendridae. It is the first known amphibious centipede and grows to up to in length. Description ''Scolopendra cataracta'' is a giant centipede, growing to around in length; it has long legs and a greenish-black colour. When exposed, it escapes into water. It both runs along stream beds and swims with eel-like horizontal undulations of its body. Out of water, water rolls off the centipede's body leaving it dry as the surface is hydrophobic. The species was discovered, and the first specimen collected, in 2000 near Thailand's Khao Sok National Park. Two more specimens were collected near waterfalls in Laos.
