Cantwell is Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and McMorris Rodgers is Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. If passed, it would supersede some state-based laws which have emerged in the absence of a comprehensive federal data privacy law.
