ACC Trophy
The ACC Trophy was a limited-overs cricket tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Open only to List of International Cricket Council members, associate and affiliate members of the International Cricket Council (ICC), it was contested biennially between 1996 and 2012, but was replaced by the three-division 2014 ACC Premier League, ACC Premier League in 2014 as the primary limited-overs competition for non-Test cricket, Test-playing ACC members. The tournament was discontinued for 9 years, and reinvented as ACC Premier Cup in 2023. The finalists of the 2000 ACC Trophy, 2000 and 2006 ACC Trophy, 2006 tournaments qualified for the Asia Cup, where matches had One Day International (ODI) status. The 1996 ACC Trophy, inaugural edition of the tournament was played in Malaysia in 1996, and featured 12 teams in a single division. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is a cricket organization which was established in 1983, to promote and develop the sport of Cricket in Asia. Subordinate to the International Cricket Council, the council is the continent's regional administrative body, and currently consists of 27 member associations. Mohsin Naqvi is the current president of Asian Cricket Council. History The council was formed as the Asian Cricket Conference in New Delhi, India, on 19 September 1983, with the original members being Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. 1998 ACC Trophy
The 1998 ACC Trophy was a cricket tournament in Nepal, taking place from 3 October to 13 October 1998. It gave Associate and Affiliate members of the Asian Cricket Council experience of international one-day cricket and also helped form an essential part of regional rankings. The tournament was won by Bangladesh who defeated Malaysia in the final by 8 wickets. This would be Bangladesh's final ACC Trophy title prior to their elevation to Test status in 2000. Arshad Laeeq (born 28 November 1970), is a former Pakistani-born cricketer who played for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. He played two first-class cricket games for Pakistan Steel in 1986–87 and was a stand-by selection for Pakistan for the 1988 Youth World Cup.
