Burnie Dockers Football Club
Burnie Dockers Football Club is an Australian rules football club in Burnie Tasmania, Australia. The club currently competes in the North West Football League (NWFL). Club history The Burnie Dockers were formed as a result of a merger between former Tasmanian Football League, TFL Statewide League club Burnie Hawks Football Club, Burnie Hawks (formerly known as Cooee) and NTFL club the Burnie Tigers. After several years of bitter hatred in the city between the two rival clubs, both clubs were struggling both on-field and financially by the early 1990s. In late 1993 the Burnie Hawks absorbed the Burnie Tigers and merged, however the club still played as the Burnie Hawks until, with the arrival of former North Melbourne champion Peter German, the club adopted a new emblem, colours and jumper designed to appease both sides of the divide. North West Football League
The North West Football League (NWFL) is an Australian rules football competition in North West Tasmania. The league was previously known as the Northern Tasmanian Football League (NTFL) from its inception in 1987 until the end of the 2014 season. History Throughout and after the 1986 season, greater northern Tasmania's two senior football competitions – the Launceston-based Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986), Northern Tasmanian Football Association (NTFA) and the north-western coast's North Western Football Union (NWFU) – each lost several clubs to the new Tasmanian Football League, TFL Statewide League in 1986. North West Football Union
The North West Football Union (NWFU) was an Australian rules football competition which ran from 1910 to 1986 on the North West Tasmania, north-western coast of Tasmania. In its time it was one of the three main leagues in Tasmania, with the Tasmanian Football League in Hobart and Northern Tasmanian Football Association (1886–1986), Northern Tasmanian Football Association in Launceston representing the rest of the state. Burnie Dockers Football Club, Burnie, Latrobe Football Club, Latrobe and Ulverstone Robins Football Club, Ulverstone were the most successful clubs with 12 premierships each. Prior to 1922 the Union was restricted to the Devonport, Latrobe and Ulverstone municipalities. From 1922 Burnie, Penguin and Yeoman were admitted. Wynyard replaced Yeoman in 1925. Andrew Hill (footballer)
Andrew Hill (born 11 June 1980) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Australian Football League (AFL). Hill, a Tasmanian, played for the Mariners in the TAC Cup. He wasn't selected in the 1998 national draft and in 1999 played with the Burnie Dockers in the Tasmanian Football League during which he represented Tasmania versus the Western Australian Football League (WAFL) in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. In the year 2000 he moved to the then stand alone Northern Bullants in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and impressed enough in his outings that he was signed by Collingwood for the 2001 and 2002 seasons before being delisted due to injury at the end of 2002. Brady Grey
Brady Grey (born 20 July 1995) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Fremantle Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Drafted with the 58th selection in the 2013 AFL draft from the Burnie Dockers Football Club in the Tasmanian State League, he played for Peel Thunder in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), Fremantle's reserve team during the 2014 season before suffering a stress fracture in his back in July. Grey continued to play for Peel throughout 2015, and made his AFL debut for Fremantle in the final round of the 2015 AFL season, when Fremantle sent a weakened team to play Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Robbie Fox (born 16 April 1993) is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Early career Originally from Tasmania, Fox concentrated on basketball as a junior making the state's U16 and U20 teams. He was still playing football on Saturday afternoon with the Burnie Dockers. Brad Davis (Australian Rules Footballer)
Bradley James Davis (born 18 July 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Australian Football League (AFL). A ruckman, Davis started his career at the Burnie Hawks, from where he was drafted by Fitzroy. They selected him in the 1990 National Draft, with pick 27. He played four games for Fitzroy in 1991, but played just once more, in the opening round of the 1993 season. Cameron Cloke
Cameron Cloke (born 20 December 1984) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Collingwood Football Club, Carlton Football Club and Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is the son of former and Collingwood player, David Cloke and the brother of Jason and Travis Cloke. AFL career Cloke was drafted under the father-son rule in the 2002 National draft. Like his older brother Jason, Cloke was given time to develop at Williamstown in his first year at Collingwood. Cloke made his debut against Essendon in 2004 and played mostly as a tall forward. North Hobart Oval is a Stadium, sports venue in North Hobart, Tasmania. Formerly used primarily for Australian rules football widely regarded as the traditional home of Australian football in Tasmania. Justin Plapp
Justin Plapp (born 22 June 1977) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club and St Kilda Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Justin was born in Penguin, Tasmania and attended Penguin High School. Plapp caught the attention of AFL clubs after kicking 98 goals with the Burnie Dockers in 1996, which was the most by a player in the TFL Statewide League that year. He was recruited by Richmond in the draft, and played in Richmond's reserves premiership in 1997. He started his senior AFL career in 1998 with two good performances at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, three goals on debut against Fremantle and five more in a win over Carlton the following weekend. Athol Hodgetts
Athol Raymond Hodgetts (born 20 January 1951) is a former Australian rules football player and administrator, who played for in the Victorian Football League (VFL), and served as the executive director of the Victorian Football Association. Hodgetts is a member of the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame and is also a Hall of Fame Member of the Coburg Football Club. Originally from north-western Tasmania, Hodgetts was a key forward who played for Cooee in the North Western Football Union. Aged 19, he made his interstate debut for Tasmania in 1970, and he kicked three goals from full forward in his state's two-point victory against Western Australia, a famous game which has since been inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
