Buenos Aires Museum Of Modern Art
The Buenos Aires Museum of Modern Art, known locally as the Museo de Arte Moderno de Buenos Aires (MAMBA), is a modern art museum located in the San Telmo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina. History The museum opened on April 11, 1956, and resulted from an initiative by sculptor and diplomat Pablo Curatella Manes and art critic Rafael Squirru, who served as its first director. Initially located in Buenos Aires' Witcomb Gallery, the museum was later housed in the San Martín Cultural Center. The museum moved to its current location, a former Nobleza Piccardo tobacconist in the San Telmo neighborhood, in 1986. Following a five-year, 15 million-dollar renovation, the museum's main building was reopened to the public on December 23, 2010; future expansion plans include an addition that would quadruple its existing 3,000 m² (32,000 ft²) of space, and would absorb the library and archives annex, currently located at 963 Adolfo Alsina Street. San Telmo
San Telmo ("Saint Pedro González Telmo") is the oldest ''Barrios of Buenos Aires, barrio'' (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires, Argentina. A well-preserved area of the Argentine metropolis, it hosts some of its oldest buildings. One of the birthplaces of tango, during the mid 20th century it was the Bohemian district with painters Atelier, ateliers and jazz clubs. Raquel Forner
Raquel Forner (1902–1988) was an Argentine painter known for her expressionist works. Life Forner was born in 22 April 1902, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her father was Spanish by nationality and her mother was an Argentine of Spanish descent. As a result of frequent family travel to Europe, Forner spent part of her childhood in Spain, and later developed an artistic interest in the Spanish Civil War. Forner completed studies at the National Academy of Fine Arts (today part of the National University Art Institute) in Buenos Aires in 1923. A year before graduation she received an appointment to teach drawing at the same academy. In 1924 she received a third place award from the Argentine National Salon of Fine arts, and in 1928 she had her first solo exhibition in Buenos Aires. Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky ( – 13 December 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstract art, abstraction in western art. Xul Solar was the adopted name of Oscar Agustín Alejandro Schulz Solari (14 December 1887 – 9 April 1963), an Argentine painter, sculptor, writer, and inventor of imaginary languages.
