Brigham, Cumbria
Brigham is a village in the Allerdale borough of Cumbria, England. The village is near to the town of Cockermouth and is located just outside the Lake District National Park. History Brigham has existed as a settlement since Neolithic times and an early centre of Christianity in Cumbria. The church of St Bridget's, was originally a Norman building, and is situated at the far north of the village, known as Low Brigham; it contains several fragments of pre-Norman crosses and other early carved stones. A disused quarry hosting businesses and a caravan holiday park is situated in the centre of the village, above which runs the main street (C2007) of High Brigham. The quarry is bisected by the non-pavemented road called Stang Lonning. Until the closure of the Cockermouth and Workington Railway in 1966, Brigham had a railway station. Brigham A. McCown (born July 3, 1966 in Ironton, Ohio) is a former member of the U.S. Senior Executive Service at the United States Department of Transportation. He served as chief executive of (2020-2022) the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company which designed, built, operates, and maintains the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System. Following retirement from federal service, he worked as an attorney, consultant, and was Clinical Professorat Miami University. HMS Brigham (M2613)
HMS ''Brigham'' was one of 93 ships of the of inshore minesweepers. Their names were all chosen from villages ending in ''-ham''. The minesweeper was named after Brigham in Cumbria. The ship's bell is now in St Bridget's Church of England Primary School, Brigham, where it was used as a fire alarm until a more modern fire alarm system was installed. ''Brigham'' was sold to Australian interests in 1968 and renamed MV ''Brigham''. Refitted in Southampton as a prospective ferry she sailed with a crew of ten (via Las Palmas, Monrovia, Cape Town, Durban, Mauritius, and Albany) to Port Lincoln, South Australia, arriving on 24 December 1969 after a 16-week voyage, including a lengthy stop in Cape Town. Sold in 1970 to the Australian company Southern Concrete, and taken to Adelaide for a full refit. Brigham Young College
Brigham Young College was a college and high school in Logan, Utah. It was founded by Brigham Young on 6 August 1877, 23 days before his death. He deeded several acres of land to a board of trustees for the development of a college. This was just two years after he founded Brigham Young Academy in Provo in 1875, which became Brigham Young University in 1903. History Brigham Young established the college to provide higher education to the youth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in northern Utah, southern Idaho, and western Wyoming. It was intended to operate similarly to Oberlin College—the students' work would support the college and their needs—but the plan was never fully worked out. Brigham Smoot
Brigham Roland Smoot (June 15, 1869 – December 16, 1946) was a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and an executive of the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company. He was one of the two first Mormon missionaries to preach in Tonga and served as president of the LDS Church's Tongan mission from July 1891 to October 1892. Smoot was the son of Abraham O. Smoot and the brother of Reed Smoot. Early life and family Brigham Smoot was born on June 15, 1869, in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory, to Abraham O. Smoot and Anne K. Mauritsen, his fifth of six plural wives. Brigham Morris Young
Brigham Morris Young (–) was one of the founders of the Young Men's Mutual Improvement Association (YMMIA), the predecessor to the Young Men program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Young was the son of Brigham Young and one of his wives, Margaret Pierce. In 1875, Morris Young served a mission for the LDS Church in the Hawaiian Islands. Shortly after returning from this mission, he was asked by his father to organize the YMMIA along with Junius F. Wells and Milton H. Hardy. In 1883, Young served another mission in the Hawaiian Islands. He married Armeda Snow, a daughter of Lorenzo Snow. Their son, Lorenzo Snow Young, was a prominent architect in Utah.
