Blockade (arcade Game)
''Blockade'' is a monochrome arcade video game developed by Gremlin and released in November 1976. It was the first of what would become known as " snake games". It was designed by Lane Hauck, Ago Kiss, and Bob Pecarero. In Japan, it was distributed by Taito in 1977 as "Barricade II". Gameplay Using four directional buttons, each player moves their character around leaving a solid line behind them, turning at 90 degree angles. To win, a player must last longer than the opponent before hitting something, with the first person to hit something losing. The game ends after one player gains six wins. Reception ''Blockade'' was first demonstrated at the AMOA show in November 1976. It was one of the two most talked-about arcade games at the show, along with Namco's electro-mechanical racing game '' F-1'' demonstrated by Atari, Inc. Gremlin Industries
Gremlin Industries was an American arcade game manufacturer active from 1971 to 1983, based in San Diego, California. Following its acquisition by Sega in 1978, the company was known as Sega/Gremlin or Gremlin/Sega. The company's name was subsequently changed to Sega Electronics in 1982, before it closed in 1983. History Gremlin was founded in 1970 as a contract engineering firm by Harry Frank Fogleman and Carl E. Grindle. The duo had intended to name the company after themselves as "Grindleman Industries," but an employee of the Delaware Secretary of State's office misheard the name over the phone, so the company was incorporated as Gremlin instead. ''Tron'' is a coin-operated arcade video game manufactured and distributed by Bally Midway in 1982. The game consists of four subgames inspired by the events of the Walt Disney Productions motion picture '' Tron'' released earlier in the summer. The lead programmer was Bill Adams. The music programmer was Earl Vickers. ''Tron'' was followed by a 1983 sequel, '' Discs of Tron'', which was not as successful. A number of other licensed ''Tron'' games were released for home systems, but these were based directly on elements of the movie and not the arcade game. Snake is a sub-genre of action video games where the player maneuvers the end of a growing line, often themed as a snake. The player must keep the snake from colliding with both other obstacles and itself, which gets harder as the snake lengthens. Snake Byte
''Snake Byte'' is video game written by Chuck Sommerville for the Apple II and published by Sirius Software in 1982. The game is a single-player variant of the snake concept. That same year, ''Snake Byte'' was released for the Atari 8-bit family and on cartridge for the VIC-20. A Commodore 64 version followed in 1983. Gameplay The player controls a snake, crawling into a rectangular area. At the start of the game the snake has three lives and gains a life when it successfully exits a level. The goal is to eat 10 apples in each of the 28 levels. If an apple is not eaten during the given deadline, three extra apples are to be eaten. The snake becomes longer and moves more quickly with each apple eaten. The snake loses a life when crashing into a fence, the wall or itself. After the last apple in each round is eaten the snake must exit the area through a gate which appears. Higher levels have more complicated fences, making the area trickier to navigate.
