Blackpool Borough Council Elections
Blackpool Borough Council elections are generally held every four years. Blackpool Borough Council (which styles itself "Blackpool Council") is the local authority for the unitary authority of Blackpool in Lancashire, England. Since the last boundary changes in 2003, 42 councillors have been elected from 21 wards. Political control From 1889 to 1974, Blackpool was a county borough, independent from any county council. Under the Local Government Act 1972 Blackpool was reconstituted as a non-metropolitan district, with Lancashire County Council providing county-level services. The first election to the reformed borough council was held in 1973, initially operating as a shadow authority until the new arrangements took effect on 1 April 1974. Blackpool became a unitary authority on 1 April 1998, regaining its independence from Lancashire County Council. Jack Renshaw (far-right Activist)
Jack Andrew Renshaw (born 1995) is a convicted child sex offender, terrorist and former spokesperson for the neo-Nazi organisation National Action. He was an economics and politics student at Manchester Metropolitan University and an organiser for the British National Party (BNP) youth wing, BNP Youth. On 12 June 2018, Renshaw pleaded guilty to preparing an act of terrorism, with the intention of killing the Labour MP Rosie Cooper, and to making a threat to murder a police officer. Early life Renshaw was born in Ormskirk in 1995 and raised in Skelmersdale. As a child, Renshaw moved to Blackpool and later became involved with the English Defence League (EDL). The EDL had been popular in Blackpool since the disappearance of Charlene Downes in 2003, which had been blamed on Asian and Arab takeaway workers. Renshaw became disillusioned with the EDL as he thought they were too pro-LGBT and pro-Jewish. Renshaw joined the BNP at the age of 15, against his parents' wishes. While ... The 2019 Blackpool Council election took place on 2 May 2019 to elect members of Blackpool Council in England. Blackpool Council had been controlled by the Labour Party since 2011, which held a majority of ten with 26 councillors. The Conservatives were defending twelve seats, and independent councillors were defending four. The 2015 Blackpool Borough Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of Blackpool Borough Council in England. All 21 wards of 2 seats each on the council were contested with newly elected members next due to serve a four-year term and next contest their seats in 2019.
