Black (Pearl Jam Song)
"Black" is a song by the American rock band Pearl Jam. The song is the fifth track on the band's debut album, '' Ten'' (1991), and features lyrics written by vocalist Eddie Vedder and music written by guitarist Stone Gossard. After ''Ten'' became a commercial success in 1992, Pearl Jam's record label Epic Records urged the group to release the song as a single. The band refused, citing the song's personal nature. Despite the lack of a commercial single release, the song managed to reach number three on the ''Billboard'' Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Remixed versions of the song were included on Pearl Jam's 2004 greatest hits album, ''Rearviewmirror'', and the 2009 ''Ten'' reissue. It has gone on to become one of the band's most popular songs, as well as a fan favorite. ''Pearl Jam Twenty'' (also known as PJ20) is a 2011 American documentary directed by Cameron Crowe about the band Pearl Jam. Preliminary footage was being shot as of June 2010. Crowe completed filming in April 2011, after using 12,000 hours of footage of the band for the documentary. The film premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and also had an accompanying book and soundtrack. The documentary charts the history of the band, from the demise of Mother Love Bone, their battle against Ticketmaster and the tragedy of the Roskilde Festival in 2000. The film was presented theatrically at select cinemas in the US during the month of September 2011, and premiered on October 21, 2011, on PBS' ''American Masters.'' Mark Eitzel
Mark Eitzel (born January 30, 1959) is an American musician, best known as a songwriter and lead singer of the San Francisco band American Music Club. Biography Eitzel spent his formative years in a military family living in Okinawa, Taiwan, Ohio and the United Kingdom. He moved to America in 1979, and came out as gay in 1985. He started making music while he was a teenager in Southampton, England. His first band was a punk band called the Cowboys when he moved to Columbus, Ohio, at 19. They released one single in 1980. His second band was called The Naked Skinnies and they released one single in 1981. He moved to San Francisco with The Naked Skinnies in 1981 where they disbanded in 1982. Allan Jones (born 1951 or 1952) is a British music journalist and editor. Following university, Jones took a job in the stockroom of Hatchards on Piccadilly. While he was there he applied for a writing job at the music weekly '' Melody Maker'' with a letter that concluded, "''Melody Maker'' needs a bullet up its arse. I’m the gun – pull the trigger." He joined the staff in 1974 and became editor ten years later. After he wrote a scathing review of Pink Floyd's ''The Wall'' show at Earls Court Exhibition Centre he was described on stage by Roger Waters as a "stupid shit". ''Ten'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Pearl Jam, released on August 27, 1991, through Epic Records. Following the dissolution of their previous band Mother Love Bone in 1990, bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard began rehearsing with new guitarist Mike McCready. The group recorded a five-song instrumental demo tape with Matt Cameron on drums. Copies of the demo were eventually given to drummer Dave Krusen and vocalist Eddie Vedder, both of whom were invited to audition for the band in Seattle.
